Description
Fomuto Berger held the rank of major in the Garmillas Imperial Forces and served as acting commanding officer aboard the damaged carrier *Lamvea*. The deaths of General Elk Domel and fellow officers during the Battle of the Rainbow Star Cluster profoundly shaped his military trajectory, igniting an enduring pursuit of vengeance against the *Yamato* and its crew—a vendetta he maintained despite a formal peace accord between Earth and the Great Garmillas Empire.

Berger harbored a deep personal bond with Meria Ricke, preserving her hologram and enduring trauma from her loss. His failed attempt to rescue her left a visible scar and intensified his embittered worldview. During an exchange with Colonel Neredia Ricke, Meria’s sister and commander of the carrier *Mirangal*, Berger openly scorned the peace treaty. When Neredia warned of unexplained disappearances and rumors of a "witch" in their sector, he dismissed her alerts as superstition.

Mid-conversation, Berger detected inexplicable singing—inaudible to others—as the *Lamvea* neared a colossal alien artifact called the Celestial Ark. He, Neredia Ricke, war veteran Vance Barlen, and young pilot Klim Melhe became trapped inside the Ark’s surreal hotel environment, which reconstructed settings from their memories.

Inside this space, Berger’s group encountered the *Yamato* survey team: Mikage Kiryu, Sho Sawamura, Susumu Kodai, and Kaoru Niimi. Ark-induced illusions initially masked both groups as Zaltzi soldiers while replacing their uniforms with civilian attire and vanishing their weapons. Berger noted Kiryu’s uncanny resemblance to Meria Ricke, hinting at the likeness to Neredia—who overlooked the implication. Shared perception of the mysterious singing between Berger and Kiryu fostered cautious communication.

Days of confinement, depleting supplies, and rising tensions eroded Berger’s hostility. He confided in Kiryu about the near-extinct Zirel species, comparing them to folkloric witches and noting two survivors resided on Garmillas. Nightmares of Meria’s death and his rescue failure haunted him; though initially rebuffing Kiryu’s concern after one episode, he later divulged details of the Zirel.

Mounting psychological strain and deteriorating conditions within the hotel laid bare Berger’s trauma and grief, shifting his relentless animosity toward the *Yamato* crew into a tenuous coexistence forged by desperation. The Celestial Ark compelled him to confront his past losses and consuming fixation on revenge.
