Description
Nanao Watanabe, nicknamed "Seven-sempai" from the Japanese word "nana" meaning seven, lives a double life as the flamboyant Galaxy Seven. As timid middle school student Nanao, he presides over the Battle Spirits club at Toaru Middle School, mentoring protagonist Bashin and friends. This persona contrasts sharply with his transformation into Galaxy Seven, triggered by wearing sunglasses and adopting an extravagant, feather-adorned look alongside a narcissistic personality centered on his catchphrase "Sexy? No!! Galaxy!".
Operating as Number Seven within the antagonistic Thousand Spirits Group's Numbers Elite, Galaxy Seven maintains consistent loyalty throughout the main series, ultimately participating in thwarting Number Nine's betrayal and world conquest. The number seven remains a recurring motif, defining his position in the Numbers Elite hierarchy and appearing on promotional cards costing seven core resources.
Beyond the original series, Galaxy Seven appears across multiple Battle Spirits continuities. In Shounen Gekiha Dan, voiced by Junichi Suwabe, he serves as the Grand Rolo Championships announcer and performs the second ending theme. He reprises his announcer role in Battle Spirits Heroes, though portrayed differently. His most significant alternate role occurs in Battle Spirits Sword Eyes, where he acts as a divine messenger alongside Justice Tachibana and Bomber. Here, he gifts a jewel staff to young Amarello, later reuniting with her after the messengers betray God and lose their powers; the epilogue reveals their marriage and operation of a Battle Spirits goods shop. He also features in Saikyo Ginga Ultimate Zero episode 45, voiced by Daisuke Kishio, as a cosmic guardian overseeing space and protecting the Ultimate Battle Spirits before being consumed by Nakes.
Galaxy Seven stars in his own Cartoon Network Japan segments: "Galaxy Watanabe's Card Battle Station," "Let's Play Battle Spirits," and "Let's Play Battle Spirits DX." In these formulaic segments, he battles children using featured weekly cards, consistently wins, and awards participants with cards. Special guests like Ryosuke Sakamaki (Striker's voice actor) sometimes appear, and segments occasionally cover real-world Battle Spirits events. His presence extends to merchandise and card game integrations, including three promotional magic cards (Galaxy Draw, Galaxy Step, Galaxy Burst), the Brave card "The GalaxyStarSword Galaxysword," and the card "MC Gingar" explicitly based on him. Minor cameos occur via posters or flashbacks in other works, like the first episode of Battle Spirits Brave and its manga adaptation.
