Description
Dyspear reigns as the core antagonist, born from despair manifested through unfulfilled dreams and doubts within the Hope Kingdom's Forest of Despair. Sealed away in ancient times by the previous generation of Princess Pretty Cures, who foresaw its stronger return, Dyspear eventually resurfaced. It conquered the Hope Kingdom by manipulating the aspirations of Princess Towa, Prince Kanata's younger sister. Luring Towa into the Forest with promises of becoming a Grand Princess, Dyspear caused her disappearance, plunging the kingdom into hopelessness and enabling its takeover. Dyspear then erased Towa's memories, reshaping her identity into Twilight, the "Princess of Despair," its supposed daughter. This served to spread despair widely and inflict profound emotional suffering upon Prince Kanata.

Commanding the organization Dys Dark, Dyspear led the Three Musketeers (Close, Shut, Lock) and robotic enforcers Stop & Freeze. Its forces assaulted both the Hope Kingdom and the human world, targeting individual dreams. By locking these dreams within the Gate of Despair, Dyspear created monsters called Zetsuborgs, fueling its own power. Dyspear exhibited a ruthless and cunning personality, characterized by intolerance for subordinate failure and a mastery of psychological manipulation, persistently exploiting Towa's vulnerabilities even after her purification.

Its distinctive physical form featured a low-cut black dress adorned with feathers, sharp shoulder pads, red gloves, a red cape connected to a horned headdress, and a prominent chest keyhole. Achieving a final form by absorbing subordinate Close, Dyspear grew significantly larger, gaining violet hair coiled into twin tails, a silver crown, and yellow-green irises.

Dyspear wielded formidable abilities including dimensional manipulation, thorn generation, time-stopping, and the creation of corrupted black Dress Up Keys. A signature power involved locking dreams behind doors of despair, requiring Grand Princess power to unlock. Significantly weakened after an initial defeat by Cure Scarlet, Dyspear retreated to the Forest of Despair to regenerate, delegating authority to Lock and demanding the collection of despair energy for its full recovery.

Returning at full strength, Dyspear shifted focus to the human world, specifically targeting Noble Academy. In the climax, it fused with Close to amplify power, engulfing the globe in despair vines and imprisoning humanity in cages. During this confrontation, Dyspear revealed its origin as a manifestation of collective doubt and shattered dreams. The resolve of the Pretty Cures, empowered by their allies' hopes, allowed them to achieve Grand Princess forms. Their combined "Grand Libération" attack purified and permanently defeated Dyspear. Its final act transferred residual power to Close before dissipating, declaring despair's eternal nature.

Beyond the main series, Dyspear appeared in the crossover film *Pretty Cure All Stars: Singing with Everyone ♪ Miraculous Magic!*, revived alongside other past antagonists by the sorceress Solciel, though without further narrative development to its character.
