Description
Arisa Meigo, a Level 0 esper in Academy City, begins as a street performer aspiring to professional singing. Her unexplained ability unconsciously triggers miraculous events during disasters, ensuring all involved survive unharmed. This fuels rumors of her voice bringing good luck, boosting her popularity as an internet sensation among the city's youth. Despite her Level 0 status, she undergoes periodic check-ups at Kirigaoka due to this anomaly, undetectable by scientific means. Her identity ties intrinsically to the "Miracle 88" Orion spaceplane disaster.
Three years prior, Arisa manifested during Orion's crash, born from the consciousness of passenger Shutaura Sequenzia. Shutaura's desperate wish for a miracle—amplified by collective survival desires—distorted causality, splitting her into two entities. Arisa emerged naked as the 88th survivor, holding half of a novelty Orion constellation bracelet; the other half remained with Shutaura. The sole fatality was Shutaura’s father, pilot Daedalus Sequenzia. Institutionalized with complete amnesia, Arisa adopted her given name and kept the broken bracelet as a lucky charm linked to her lost past.
Failing to develop measurable esper powers, Arisa channeled her efforts into singing. She saw her Level 0 status as motivation, believing reliance on abilities might hinder her dedication. Yet her miraculous power caused self-doubt—she feared audiences were subconsciously influenced rather than genuinely appreciating her artistry. Despite this, she performed publicly to spread joy and pursue her dream. During a street performance, Misaka Mikoto rescued her from Skill-Out harassers, though Arisa never learned Mikoto’s name.
Her path crossed Kamijou Touma and Index Librorum Prohibitorum while preparing for Endymion’s opening ceremony. After winning an audition to perform the space elevator’s campaign song, she celebrated with them but became targeted by magicians led by Stiyl Magnus. The magic side viewed her as a potential war catalyst, as her Saint-like powers could activate a global spell within Endymion. Simultaneously, Academy City’s Black Crow Unit—led by Shutaura Sequenzia under Ladylee Tangleroad’s orders—deployed to protect her. Tangleroad, who orchestrated the Orion crash to manifest Arisa, planned to use her singing to break an immortality curse.
Tangleroad revealed Arisa’s origin: she was the manifested "wish" of Shutaura, an artificial existence born from distorted causality. This culminated in a confrontation aboard Endymion, where Tangleroad forced Arisa to sing and activate the spell. Amid chaos, Touma helped Shutaura reconcile with her father’s death and rejection of miracles. Arisa and Shutaura sang together, merging into one entity and amplifying their power to neutralize Tangleroad’s spell. The merger repaired their shared Orion bracelet. Though Arisa ceased as a separate individual, her voice persisted in the merged being.
Physically, Arisa has long pink hair often tied up, pink eyes, and wears a light pink smock, blue pants, and a light blue newsboy cap with a dove. Her stage outfits feature flamboyant avian motifs. Kind and selfless, she willingly became Tangleroad’s tool to protect audiences. She shares Index’s ravenous appetite and channels resilience into relentless singing dedication. Her songwriting talent enables spontaneous composition, like after a bath conversation with Index.
