Description
Bruce Banner, also known as the Hulk, appears in this anime as a founding member of the Avengers. His existence is defined by the dual nature of his identity, a brilliant scientist forever linked to a powerful green-skinned alter ego that emerges under emotional stress. While the classic trigger for his transformation is anger or anxiety, within this specific narrative he demonstrates a degree of control over the Hulk personality, allowing him to function as a reliable member of the team on various missions.

Banner’s background as a scientist who was exposed to gamma radiation remains central to his character. This origin, which resulted in his struggle with two separate identities, directly shapes his approach when the Avengers decide to train a new generation of heroes known as the Future Avengers. He steps into a mentorship role for three genetically modified teenagers named Makoto, Adi, and Chloe, who were previously manipulated by the criminal organization Hydra. Banner forms a particularly deep bond with Makoto, as he personally understands the difficulty of controlling newly acquired superhuman abilities and the sense of isolation that can result from such a struggle. He recognizes Makoto’s challenge to use his powers responsibly, a direct parallel to his own experiences with the unpredictable Hulk.

Throughout the series, Banner actively participates in team operations and security missions. For example, he is involved in guarding the transfer of the captured villain Red Skull, during which the Hulk engages in combat with powerful adversaries like Ares and the Absorbing Man. When the Avengers Tower comes under attack, Banner works alongside the young recruits to protect civilians, providing both combat support and tactical guidance. He also applies his scientific expertise, frequently collaborating with Tony Stark on advanced projects such as prototypes for portal technology. These experiments, however, can sometimes lead to unintended consequences, including triggering the Hulk’s emergence during testing.

The role of the Hulk within the Avengers provides a sense of stability and experience to the younger members. Banner is consistently cautious about his transformations, especially following incidents where the Hulk’s appearance caused significant property damage or public concern. Despite this wariness, the Hulk’s immense superhuman strength, which can increase exponentially with his rising anger, combined with his incredible durability and regenerative healing factor, makes him an essential asset to the team. His presence is crucial as the heroes confront ongoing threats such as Hydra’s Emerald Rain project and the Masters of Evil. By mentoring the Future Avengers, Banner and the Hulk offer them a living example of how to manage power responsibly while fighting alongside them to safeguard the world.
