Chōta Segawa works as an IT technician and is a close friend of Ryōhei Arisu and Daikichi Karube before their arrival in the Borderlands. Financial strain burdens him due to his mother's involvement in a religious cult and her persistent demands for money. Physically short with dark hair and a mole on his right cheek, he wears a teal-and-dark-blue striped T-shirt and beige capris in the Borderlands. His personality blends deep loyalty with anxiety; he uses humor to manage stress yet shows unwavering devotion to his friends. His technical expertise allows him to deduce an electromagnetic pulse disabled modern electronics in the Borderlands, leaving only older devices like radios functional. Chōta met Arisu in high school after taking blame for a window Arisu broke. He later befriended Karube when Karube defended them both from robbers. In the Borderlands, Chōta participates in the "Three of Clubs: Dead or Alive" game. His video recording of the venue aids Arisu in solving the puzzle, but an explosion in the final room injures his leg, impairing his mobility. During his recovery, fellow player Saori Shibuki manipulates his vulnerability, initiating a sexual encounter and insinuating his friends see him as weak. This triggers a traumatic childhood flashback: witnessing his mother offer money to a cult leader before being led to a private room, implying sexual exploitation. In the "Seven of Hearts: Hide and Seek" game, players wear collars with eye-tracking visors. Rules require identifying the "Wolf" before time expires to avoid fatal detonations. Designated the initial Wolf, Chōta panics and transfers the role to Arisu via eye contact. As betrayal fractures the group, Shibuki tries turning Chōta against his friends. He resists, pinning her down to protect Arisu and Karube. In the final moments, Chōta, Karube, and Shibuki choose self-sacrifice, refusing to accept the Wolf role from Arisu and allowing their collars to explode.
