Description
Dr. Adams Teufel, also known as Dr. Adams or Dr. Teufel, served as a scientist within the Black Ghost organization. He pioneered the development of the initial 00-series cyborgs before his dismissal; colleagues deemed his extreme proposals, particularly the "Cyborg Daemons" concept merging cyborgs with demons, too costly and impractical for Black Ghost's objectives.
Following his expulsion, he secured unofficial backing from fellow Black Ghost scientist Van Vogt, who supplied materials for independent experiments. This clandestine support enabled the creation of the "High-Teen Number" cyborgs: his son Edward (Cyborg 0014), a Black Ghost soldier (Cyborg 0016), and three esper test subjects from a Canadian facility (Cyborgs 0015, 0017, and 0018). A pivotal laboratory accident severely injured Edward and cost him his right eye, compelling Dr. Adams to make Edward the first High-Teen cyborg subject.
His core research focused on merging demons with cyborg bodies to forge unstoppable "Cyborg Daemons." Identifying the comatose Seth (Cyborg 0018) as the ideal subject, Dr. Adams manipulated Seth's twin sister, Eva Maria Pallares (Cyborg 0015), into believing a merger with the demon Atun would cure Seth. His true intent was for Atun to override Seth's consciousness, transforming him into a weapon.
Physically, he possessed a tall, slender frame with long dark hair, a beard, and a mustache. He wore a monocle over his missing right eye and typically dressed in a white lab coat with a red bolo-tie. His personality exhibited high ambition and a disregard for risks or ethics, viewing test subjects as expendable, yet he retained genuine concern for his son Edward. His scientific expertise spanned microorganism biology and physics, specializing in mutation-inducing substitute cells designed to unlock abilities beyond standard cybernetics. He considered the Cyborg Daemon project his pinnacle achievement.
The project culminated in Atun possessing Seth's body. Atun immediately betrayed Dr. Adams, seizing him and fatally snapping his neck, highlighting the fatal flaw in his ambition: underestimating the demonic forces he sought to control. His surname "Teufel" (German for "Devil") and given name "Adams" (referencing the biblical first man) reflected his role as creator of the High-Teen cyborgs and his demonic pursuits. Design-wise, his character drew inspiration from Shotaro Ishinomori's scientist archetypes, resembling Professor Gill from *Kikaider*. His poses and the depiction of Atun's fiery form contained visual homages to Dr. Hell and the Emperor of Darkness from the *Mazinger* series.
