Geparuto Giboshi, the younger sister of Kanbei and thus grand-aunt to Kankichi Ryotsu, presides as hostess over her family's high-class sushi establishment, Chō Kanda Sushi. Remarkably, she retains robust health and sharp mental faculties despite exceeding one hundred years of age. Her personality blends inherent warmth with considerable stubbornness and obstinacy.
She possesses an exceptionally accurate and often intimidating memory, a trait she leverages effectively in managing both family matters and the restaurant. Though initially resistant to modern conveniences, her perspective shifted after Ryotsu taught her computer skills; she subsequently embraced various high-tech gadgets, integrating them into her daily life and business operations.
Geparuto holds profound disapproval of Ryotsu's character and conduct, particularly concerning his interactions with her granddaughters, Matoi and Lemon. Her primary focus is preventing the development of romantic feelings towards him, especially shielding Matoi, whom she views as particularly susceptible to his influence. Within the family, she commands significant authority and stands among the few who consistently outmaneuver Ryotsu.
Her granddaughter Matoi serves in the police traffic division and shares Geparuto's deep knowledge of Tokyo's *shitamachi* culture, rivalling Ryotsu's expertise. Chō Kanda Sushi remains a symbol of their heritage and Geparuto's enduring role as its matriarch.
