Takayasu Komiya is a Japanese actor, voice actor, and entertainer born on March 11, 1956, in Kanagawa Prefecture. He is a graduate of Meiji University. His career in entertainment began in comedy; in 1979, he formed the comedy trio Konto Akashin with his university classmates Watanabe Masayuki and LaSalle Ishii, making their professional debut the following year.
Komiya's entry into voice acting originated from his time in the training school for the theatre company Theatre Echo, where he passed an internal voice actor examination. This led to his participation in notable anime series such as Space Battleship Yamato and Aim for the Ace!. His most prominent and long-running voice role is Geparuto Giboshi, the matriarch of the Giboshi family, in the long-running anime series Kochira Katsushika-ku Kameari Kōen-mae Hashutsujo, commonly known as Kochikame. He voiced the character from 2000 onwards, appearing in the television series, the theatrical film Kochikame THE MOVIE2: UFO Shūrai! Tornado Daisakusen, and the special Kochikame THE FINAL: Ryōtsu Kankichi Saigo no Hi. He also portrayed the same role in the stage adaptation of the series.
In addition to his voice work in Kochikame, Komiya has maintained an extensive career in film, television drama, and theatre. He has appeared in numerous television dramas, including various installments of the long-running series Aibou and the Taiga drama. His theatrical work is diverse, encompassing one-man plays and English-language performances. A significant recurring collaboration is with his Konto Akashin partners, Watanabe Masayuki and LaSalle Ishii, with whom he continues to appear in stage productions.
Komiya's notable achievements extend beyond acting. He has a deep background in rakugo, having founded rakugo research clubs in both high school and university, and he continues to perform and host his own rakugo gathering called Gorakutei. In 1991, under the parody rap name MC Komiya, he released a CD single and mini-album. He was also selected as a cultural exchange ambassador by the Agency for Cultural Affairs in 2004, which allowed him to study theatre in London and perform English rakugo in schools to promote Japanese culture. He is a member of the International Theatre Institute.
