TV-Series
Description
Kiroranke, also known by his Tatar name Yulbars ("tiger"), originated from the Amur River basin. He worked on a farm in his youth, developing expertise in horse care and riding. At fifteen, he joined the Russian extremist group People's Will and participated in the assassination attempt on Emperor Alexander II. During the event, he threw explosives that missed; his comrade Wilk redirected the bomb into the carriage, sustaining severe injuries. Kiroranke carried Wilk to safety, and both became fugitives in Russia for over a decade. They later fled to Japan with fellow revolutionary Sofia, who remained behind due to ideological conflicts. Kiroranke married in Japan, likely acquiring citizenship, which may have led to his conscription during the Russo-Japanese War. He fought at 203 Hill as a combat engineer specializing in improvised grenades and tunneling.
Physically, Kiroranke is a tall, muscular man standing 184 cm, with black hair styled in a traditional male Ainu cut, blue eyes, and a thick beard. He typically wears a Japanese army uniform layered with an Ainu ruunpe garment, along with swirling earrings. His equipment includes grenades, a hunting knife (tasiro), a short knife (makiri), and a tobacco box (tanpakuop).
Kiroranke's personality balances approachability with unwavering ideological commitment. He is dedicated to liberating oppressed minorities in Hokkaido, Karafuto, and the Russian Far East but avoids unnecessary cruelty. He exhibits hesitation in directly harming others and demonstrates compassion, such as rescuing Shiraishi from drowning or intervening to save an abused horse at personal risk. He deeply values comrades like Wilk and Sofia, mourning Wilk intensely upon his death yet later euthanizing him in alignment with Wilk's beliefs. Despite his ideals, he manipulates Asirpa to access the Ainu gold code. He refuses to eat horse meat due to his affinity for horses and prefers river fish.
His skills include fluency in Japanese, Ainu dialects (Hokkaido and Karafuto), Orok, and Russian. As a seasoned combat engineer, he crafts explosives and constructs tactical tunnels. His horsemanship allows him to compete against professional jockeys.
During the series, Kiroranke accompanies Asirpa, Shiraishi, and Ogata, seeking the Ainu gold to fund minority independence. He guides Asirpa to her father's abandoned village in Karafuto, where he and Ogata confirm Wilk's identity as Noppera-bo and strategize to extract the gold code from her. While crossing into Russia disguised as Uilta reindeer herders, his group is ambushed by Russian forces after Lt. Tsurumi leaks his location. Kiroranke reveals his revolutionary past to Asirpa during their escape. Later, after being shot by Ogata and wounded by Tanigaki, he is betrayed by Ogata, who kills him during a diversion. Kiroranke's final act involves accepting death while reminiscing about Sofia.
