Description
Sadaharu "Gorillaman" Ikedo, a transfer student at Shiratake High School, earns his nickname from distinct facial features reminiscent of a gorilla. He initially wears a suit, amplifying his unconventional look. Ikedo is completely mute, a trait causing faculty frustration and making him a target for student bullying. Despite his silence and limited expressions, his actions carry significant dramatic weight, evoking the tension of silent film techniques.

His behavior includes specific quirks: a strong preference for CalorieMate snacks and regularly retrieving large quantities of drinks from vending machines for friends. He displays occasional clumsiness, tripping during fights or failing at sports like baseball, yet paradoxically demonstrates unexpected physical strength, such as hanging effortlessly by one arm from upper-level classroom windows. He harbors a notable fear of dogs, particularly an old schoolyard dog named Arnold.

Initially bullied by the Fujimoto Corps—a gang led by charismatic delinquent Fujimoto—Ikedo gradually gains their acceptance. Teasing persists but turns more lighthearted. He evolves from a background figure to taking decisive actions, often intervening as an unseen "clean-up" fighter after conflicts. His role grows more prominent, culminating in his election as student council president. He also develops a romantic relationship with classmate Kaori.

Ikedo's past remains deliberately ambiguous. Flashbacks and rumors from transfer students depict him as potentially violent, though accounts are often unreliable or contradictory. One middle school flashback involves an incident with Stephen Hawking and accusations of lying. His martial prowess is subtly established; his first significant fight against rival Fujise occurs offscreen in volume 3, with only the bloody aftermath shown. When his family appears later, they bring more questions than answers, particularly regarding their undefined "business."

In the final story arc, a member of the Ikedo family business pressures the Fujimoto Corps into selling overpriced stickers for a rival school. Fujimoto capitulates, but Ikedo resists, sparking a large-scale conflict across multiple schools. This arc highlights a role reversal: Ikedo emerges as the primary hero confronting antagonists directly, while Fujimoto achieves only a minor victory in a secondary skirmish. The conclusion emphasizes Ikedo's resilient character and courage under pressure, contrasting with Fujimoto's shortcomings.

An OVA adaptation exists but provides no additional character details beyond the manga's portrayal.
