Balista is a lizard-like Aquos Bakugan who uniquely wields ice attacks rather than water abilities. He shows no mercy in battle and takes pleasure in the suffering of his opponents. Despite this, he holds deep respect for his fellow Nonet member, Worton. Balista harbors the least trust within the Nonets towards their masked leader, Wiseman, persistently seeking his true identity—a quest that leads to his demise. His physical design resembles a frill-necked lizard in ball form.
Originally imprisoned in the Doom Dimension with the other Nonets, Balista is freed by Wiseman, who promises vengeance against Drago. He fights the Battle Brawlers across Earth, frequently fusing with Worton to become Volkaos. Key battles include confrontations with Marucho Marukura and Radizen, where Balista uses Hydro Cannon (or Hydro Artillery) to freeze foes and Bubble Rush to disorient them. He also aids in summoning evil Mechtogan like Mechtavius Destroyer, though these efforts repeatedly fail.
Balista's suspicion of Wiseman grows, causing him to refuse missions and investigate instead. Using infrared vision in ball form, he discovers a hidden chamber containing Gunz Lazar entangled in vines, noting a resemblance to Wiseman. He attempts to warn Worton, but his concerns are dismissed. His distrust culminates when Wiseman reveals himself as Coredegon, who immediately executes Balista, making him the first Nonet killed for uncovering the truth. Balista never encounters Gunz, dying before his awakening.
His documented abilities are Hydro Artillery (Hydro Cannon), Bubble Rush, and Switch Blizzard. In the physical game, his G-power varies: Aquos at 920 Gs, Pyrus at 950 Gs, Ventus at 850 Gs. Additional traits include narrating episode previews alongside the Aquos Bakugan Trister, possessing infrared vision, and being one of only two Nonets (alongside Tremblar) never depicted using a Battle Suit. Despite animosity towards Drago, Balista never addresses him by name.
