Mag Mel is the mutated, gold-armored form of the former Gundalian Emperor Barodius, serving as the primary antagonist in the first arc of *Bakugan: Mechtanium Surge*. Following defeat in the Neathian-Gundalian War, Barodius and his partner Bakugan Phantom Dharak endured imprisonment within a dark reverse dimension of Bakugan Interspace, forged by Code Eve. Exposure to the Sacred Orb within this prison twisted Barodius into Mag Mel, while Phantom Dharak transformed into Razenoid. Trapped in the dimension, Mag Mel forged a psychic link with Dan Kuso and Drago, manifesting in Dan's nightmares and visions during battles. He relentlessly demanded Dan surrender Drago's power to secure his freedom, seeking to harness their Chaos Energy—a force capable of spawning robotic Mechtogan. His physical form is defined by imposing golden-yellow armor featuring a helmet with six red spider-like eyes and a green diamond on the forehead, sharp arm blades, and an orange toga with black stripes. Philosopher's stones are visibly embedded in his chest and hips. Mag Mel retained Barodius's core traits: self-absorption, insatiable hunger for power, and deep-seated vengeance. He harbored intense hatred toward Gundalia and its people for perceived past betrayals, later invading the planet to exact retribution. He manipulated brawlers Anubias and Sellon as his primary servants, using them to siphon energy from battles. Upon their failures, he callously absorbed their life forces, eliminating them without hesitation. His ambitions escalated to stealing Dan's Gate and Key to surpass Code Eve, though he feared Drago's potential for further evolution. To engineer his escape from imprisonment, Mag Mel orchestrated events from his throne, often physically restrained by webbing. He commanded Razenoid to spawn Chaos Bakugan like Darkus Iron Dragonoid and Mechtogan such as Venexus, distributing them to Anubias and Sellon to instigate battles and harvest vital energy. After amassing sufficient Chaos Energy, he shattered his confines and launched devastating assaults on Gundalia, Neathia, Vestal, New Vestroia, and Earth. He obliterated Gundalian soldiers and infrastructure, overpowered the Battle Brawlers and Gundalian army in initial clashes, and deployed cloned Razen Titans to destabilize planets from within. In his final confrontation against Dan and Drago, Mag Mel wielded a light sword and fused with Razenoid to become Evolved Razenoid. He met defeat when Drago evolved into Fusion Dragonoid, and Dan exploited his profound loathing of his former self by taunting him as "Barodius." This triggered a critical psychological vulnerability, culminating in his destruction alongside Razenoid.
