Description
Kōhei Nikaidō is a Private First Class in the Imperial Japanese Army's 7th Division, serving directly under First Lieutenant Tokushirō Tsurumi. He is the older twin brother of Yōhei Nikaidō. The brothers share nearly identical appearances, featuring short black hair, black irises, and standard military uniforms, making them hard to tell apart. Their names present an ironic contrast to their violent natures: Kōhei means "large/generous peace," while Yōhei translates to "large ocean peace."

Kōhei and Yōhei first appear pursuing Saichi Sugimoto during the Escape King Arc. Both exhibit violent tendencies, but Kōhei demonstrates a colder, pragmatic approach compared to Yōhei's impulsive brutality. Kōhei favors efficient methods like shooting Sugimoto to limit collateral damage, while Yōhei advocates for prolonged torture. Their dynamic shatters when Sugimoto kills Yōhei during a private interrogation. Discovering his brother's body ignites an intense obsession in Kōhei to avenge Yōhei's death, marking the start of his psychological decline.

Yōhei's death triggers Kōhei's deteriorating mental state. He becomes singularly fixated on killing Sugimoto, disregarding orders and military objectives. This relentless pursuit leads to severe physical injuries: a bear rips off one ear, Lieutenant Tsurumi severs the other, Toshizō Hijikata takes his leg, and Sugimoto severs his right hand. Kōhei dissociates from his own body, referring to his lost limbs as "Youhei's" body parts.

The artisan Arisaka provides Kōhei with multiple prosthetics. His first prosthetic leg conceals a firearm capable of firing shotgun shells. After losing his hand, he receives a prosthetic hand featuring a compartment for chopsticks in one finger; Kōhei expresses disappointment at its mundane utility compared to the weaponized leg. These prosthetics become integral to his combat style, though their tactical effectiveness wanes as his mental instability deepens.

In his final confrontation with Sugimoto, Kōhei's delusions peak. He articulates a plan to kill Sugimoto, use his body parts to "become" Yōhei, and force Sugimoto's corpse to assume Kōhei's identity. During the battle, he stabs Sugimoto with chopsticks—echoing Tsurumi injuring Sugimoto with skewers during their first meeting—and is fatally stabbed in the abdomen by Sugimoto, a wound mirroring Sugimoto's earlier manipulation of Yōhei's intestines.

Kōhei's journey transforms him from a disciplined soldier into a fragmented, vengeful figure consumed by wrath, exemplifying themes of vengeance and identity erosion following his twin's death.
