Description
Ruri Hadou is the sixteen-year-old head of the Hadou Financial Group, who wields considerable power in Arkham City. After her parents were assassinated by agents of the Black Lodge, she was raised by her grandfather, Kouzou Hadou. Deeply devoted to him, she strives to honor his legacy by piloting the Deus Machina Demonbane. To that end, she hires Kurou Daijuuji to locate a suitable grimoire, though circumstances ultimately place Kurou at Demonbane’s controls instead. Though initially bitter that an outsider operates her grandfather’s machine, she sets aside her pride and coordinates the support crew from an underground command center.

Her support team consists of her personal maids: Makoto, Sonia, and Chiaki. As the head of a major financial group, Ruri possesses strong leadership and organizational skills.

In her own route, Ruri gradually grows to depend on Kurou and recognizes that her resentment is misplaced, as she is unsuited for direct combat. After Kurou is injured defending Arkham’s underground shelters from the Black Lodge, Ruri forms a contract with Al-Azif and attempts to fight in his place. Though outmatched by the Anticross, she plays a key role in reviving Kurou and shifting the battle’s momentum. Before Kurou pursues Master Therion, she confesses her love and vows to await his return, though no word comes for a full year.

Unaware that Kurou has been defeated when Nyarlathotep exploits Al-Azif’s jealousy at a critical moment, Ruri later receives word of his last moments through Al’s time-crossing intervention. Refusing to accept his defeat, she renews her contract and is drawn across dimensions to the final battle. With her aid, Kurou defeats Master Therion and restores the timeline. Since the Black Lodge is erased from history, Ruri loses all memory of these events. She enrolls at Miskatonic University, where she meets Kurou again, while Al-Azif looks on, accepting that she cannot be with him.

When Ruri contracts with Al-Azif, she gains the ability to transform into a magius and acquires the same abilities as Kurou, though she lacks combat experience. Unable to wield the Scimitar of Barzai one-handed, she generally employs either Cthugha or Ithaqua, but not both. She remains capable of piloting Demonbane.

The origin of Demonbane is partly tied to her family. Her grandfather, Kouzou Hadou, is credited with creating the machine, though its true origins remain unknown. Before Ruri’s birth, Kouzou was stranded with Demonbane in a desert and later concealed it beneath his expanding company.
