Description
"Demonbane" is a 12-episode anime series that blends elements of mecha, fantasy, and Lovecraftian horror. The story is set in the fictional city of Arkham, where magic and technology coexist. The protagonist, Kurou Daijuuji, is a down-on-his-luck private investigator who stumbles upon a powerful grimoire named Al Azif, a sentient book that transforms into a young girl. Al Azif is the key to summoning Demonbane, a massive, ancient mecha powered by magical energy. Together, Kurou and Al Azif become embroiled in a conflict between two powerful factions: the Black Lodge, a secretive organization seeking to resurrect the eldritch god Eihort, and the Golden Lodge, which aims to prevent the apocalypse.
The narrative revolves around Kurou's journey as he learns to harness the power of Demonbane to combat the Black Lodge's forces. Along the way, he encounters allies such as Ruri Hadou, a skilled swordswoman, and Dr. West, a scientist with ties to the Golden Lodge. The Black Lodge, led by the enigmatic Master Therion, deploys its own mecha and sorcerers to achieve its goal of summoning Eihort, whose awakening would bring about the destruction of the world. As the conflict escalates, Kurou and his allies uncover deeper secrets about the origins of Demonbane, the true nature of Al Azif, and the cosmic forces at play.
The series explores themes of destiny, sacrifice, and the clash between humanity and otherworldly entities. Kurou's growth as a character is central to the plot, as he transitions from a reluctant participant to a determined hero willing to confront overwhelming odds. The story culminates in a climactic battle against the Black Lodge, with the fate of Arkham and the world hanging in the balance. "Demonbane" combines fast-paced action, intricate lore, and a mix of dark and fantastical elements to create a unique narrative experience.

Al Azif, a girl who embodies the Necronomicon, intervenes and saves him. Kurou discovers that Al Azif is the grimoire he was hired to find. The Black Lodge attacks again with a massive automaton, forcing Kurou and Al Azif to flee. They reach the warehouse where the Demonbane, a giant magical robot, is stored. Kurou activates Demonbane and engages the enemy machine. During the battle, Al Azif forms a contract with Kurou, granting him the power to pilot Demonbane effectively. They destroy the enemy automaton, but the victory leaves Kurou bound to Al Azif and the Demonbane. The episode concludes with the pair now allied, facing the looming threat of the Black Lodge and its master, Master Therion.
2The Black Wizard
Kurou Daijuji accepts his role as pilot of the Demonbane,a grimoire-powered mecha, after Al Azif chooses him as her contractor. The duo returns to Arkham City, where Kurou finds himself bound to the grimoire’s constant presence, limiting his ability to separate from her. At the Hadou Financial Group headquarters, Kurou and Al Azif meet Daijuuji Ruri, the young head of the group, who tasks them with defending the city against the Black Lodge’s incursions. The Black Wizard, Master Therion, deploys a massive mechanical beast to attack the city, forcing Kurou to sortie in Demonbane. During the battle, Kurou struggles to synchronize with the grimoire’s overwhelming magical energy, causing the mecha to falter under the enemy’s assault. Al Azif pushes her own power to compensate, nearly draining her strength. Kurou overcomes his hesitation by directly linking his will to hers, allowing Demonbane to unleash a sustained magical barrage that destroys the enemy unit. After the battle, Ruri warns Kurou that the Black Wizard will target him directly now that he has proven capable of piloting the grimoire. Kurou realizes that his survival depends on mastering Demonbane quickly, as Therion’s next attack will not be a mere test. The episode closes with Therion observing the outcome from his floating fortress and ordering his subordinate, Dr. West, to prepare a counter specifically designed to neutralize the grimoire’s power.

5The Advent of the Demonbane
Daijuuji Kurou and Al Azif complete the final calibrations on the Demonbane at the Arkham City branch of the Hadou Financial Group. The Black Lodge dispatches the Glory of the West,a colossal mecha piloted by Dr. West, to destroy the Hadou facility and retrieve the grimoire. Kurou boards the Demonbane and intercepts the enemy in the city streets, initiating the machine’s first combat deployment. Al Azif channels magical energy through the Demonbane’s systems, enabling Kurou to match the Glory of the West’s overwhelming firepower. The enemy mecha traps Demonbane in a close-quarters grapple, but Kurou triggers an emergency release of the grimoire’s barriers to break free. Using a concentrated blast from the Demonbane’s main cannon, Kurou pierces the Glory of the West’s armor and disables its core. Dr. West ejects from his cockpit as his machine explodes, but the victory draws the attention of a massive, shadowy presence descending over Arkham. From the clouds emerges the form of Nyalathotep, the Crawling Chaos, who addresses Al Azif directly and claims her as his property. The episode closes with Kurou and Al Azif facing the cosmic entity, forced to prepare for a confrontation beyond any previous battle.
6Episode 6
In Arkham City,Kurou Daijuji and Al Azif investigate the De Marigny residence following a lead on the Black Lodge's operations. Inside, they trigger a security system that activates a giant clockwork automaton. Kurou summons Demonbane to combat the construct, while Al attempts to disable the trap from within the mansion. Dr. West observes from a distance, intending to capture Al and claim the Necronomicon for Master Therion. The automaton overpowers Demonbane with coordinated mechanical limbs, forcing Kurou to adapt his tactics. Al deciphers the clock's control mechanism and feeds its structural weaknesses to Kurou through their link. Kurou destroys the automaton by targeting its central gear assembly with the Lemuria Impact. Dr. West retreats, but not before revealing that Master Therion has already begun the ritual to summon the Outer God Nyarlathotep. Upon returning to the Hadou Financial Group headquarters, Kurou learns that Ruri Hadou has been monitoring Therion’s movements across multiple dimensions. The episode closes with Therion’s forces preparing to assault Arkham City, leaving Kurou to master Demonbane’s full power before the next confrontation.
7The Whispering Mansion
Kurou and Al Azif accept a request from a client to investigate a mansion where strange sounds have been reported. Upon entering, they encounter a ghostly girl named Ruri who claims she cannot leave the premises. The mansion’s owner, a collector of occult artifacts, has vanished, leaving his grimoire collection unguarded. Kurou senses that one of the grimoires is actively binding Ruri to the building. Al Azif identifies the book as a minor demonic text that feeds on the girl’s lingering attachment to her late father. A fragment of the grimoire’s power manifests as a shadow beast that attacks the group. Kurou uses the Demonbane to sever the link between the book and Ruri, destroying the grimoire. Freed from the binding, Ruri’s spirit fades away after thanking them. The client, revealed to be the missing owner’s assistant, pays the reward but warns that more dangerous grimoires are circulating in the city. As Kurou and Al Azif leave, a figure in the shadows retrieves a shard of the destroyed book, hinting at a larger scheme to gather dark artifacts.
8Episode 8
Kurou and Al Azif respond to a surge of magical energy emanating from the Black Lodge's hidden base. Doctor West and his colleagues complete a ritual to summon a demonic entity using a fragment of the Necronomicon. The summoning tears open a dimensional rift, drawing in surrounding buildings and civilians. Kurou pilots Demonbane to intercept the rift, while Al Azif attempts to counter the spell with her own knowledge of the grimoire. The Black Lodge deploys their own mecha, the Rondo, to delay Demonbane’s approach. Kurou overcomes the Rondo through a combination of Demonbane’s physical attacks and Al’s magical suppression. The ritual reaches its final stage before they can stop it. The demon, a colossal being of shadow and flame, manifests partially and attacks Arkham City. Demonbane engages the entity but struggles against its regenerative abilities. Al Azif realizes that the demon draws power from the same source as her own tome, making conventional attacks ineffective. Kurou decides to risk overloading Demonbane’s grimoire core to create a counter-spell. The overload succeeds in banishing the demon but severely damages Demonbane and drains Al Azif’s strength. The Black Lodge retreats with the completed fragment, and Doctor West reveals he now possesses enough data to summon the entity fully. Kurou and Al Azif confront the fact that their next battle will be against the demon at full power.
9Episode 9
Kuro and Al board the Deus Machina Demonbane to intercept the Black Lodge’s mobile fortress, the Demon Castle, which hovers over Arkham City. Inside the fortress, Master Therion deploys the Liber Legis, a giant robotic grimoire, to counter Demonbane. Al struggles to maintain control of Demonbane as the Liber Legis drains its magical energy through a parasitic link. Kuro forces himself into the cockpit’s interface, overriding Al’s hesitation and pouring his own will into the machine. The combined sync allows Demonbane to break free and destroy the Liber Legis with a point-blank blast from the Grimoire’s cannon. Therion retreats deeper into the Demon Castle, revealing that the fortress itself is a living entity sustained by human sacrifices from the city. Kuro and Al pursue him through collapsing corridors, but the castle’s self‑repair systems seal off their path. Above ground, Dr. West’s team detects a second, larger Deus Machina rising from beneath the castle’s core. Kuro realizes that the attack on Arkham was only a diversion to complete the summoning of the true weapon. The episode ends with the Demon Castle transforming into a colossal winged machine, leaving Kuro and Al trapped inside its structure.
10METALLIC WARCRY
Kurou and Elsa lose contact with the Hadou command center as Tiberius infiltrates the estate. Tiberius captures Ruri and holds her hostage to force Kurou into a confrontation. He tortures Kurou slowly, intending to kill him and transform his soul into one of the vengeful spirits under Black Lodge control. Despite the physical torture and overwhelming odds, Kurou continues to resist without surrendering. His refusal to break triggers the return of Al, who had been absent since sacrificing herself in an earlier battle. Reunited, Kurou and Al immediately pilot Demonbane to engage Tiberius in his own Deus Machina, Belzebuth. Demonbane destroys Belzebuth in the ensuing battle, but Tiberius survives the destruction because of his immortality. Unbeknownst to Kurou and Al, the battle grants them access to the Shining Trapezohedron, an attack they use to banish Tiberius into a realm of eternal torment. Meanwhile, within the Black Lodge, Vespasianus attempts to overthrow Augustus to seize Cthulhu’s power. Augustus kills Vespasianus during the coup after revealing he had already taken the R'lyeh Text away from him. The episode ends with Kurou and Al reunited but now wielding a new, unstable power while the Black Lodge fractures from internal betrayal.
11The Doom That Came to the Temple
The Black Lodge completes the De Marigny Clock inside the temple, and Master Therion begins the summoning of the evil god. Kurou Daijuji and Al Azif arrive in the Demonbane to stop the ritual before the clock strikes its final chime. The clock’s hands move inexorably forward while Therion unleashes a horde of robotic familiars to delay the mech. Kurou fights through the waves, pushing Demonbane’s systems to their limit to reach the central chamber. Al separates from the cockpit to physically interfere with the clock’s mechanism, exposing herself to Therion’s direct attack. Therion stabs her with a ritual dagger, using her blood to finalize the summoning and reveal her true form as the Necronomicon itself. With Al absorbed into the clock, Kurou forces Demonbane into a dangerous overdrive, merging his consciousness with the machine to break through the barrier. The clock strikes midnight, and the evil god, Nyarlathotep, manifests as a colossal, tentacled entity above Arkham City. Kurou, now fully synchronized with Demonbane, faces the god alone while the city crumbles under the pressure of its presence. The episode closes with Kurou charging into the void, carrying only the hope of retrieving Al from the divine monstrosity.
