Sawa Ishige is a Japanese voice actress and stage actress born on February 7, 1979, in Chiba Prefecture, Japan. Her career in the entertainment industry began in 1998 when she joined the theatrical group Wakakusa. Her professional breakthrough came in 1999 after successfully auditioning for the role of Pop Harukaze in the long-running television series Ojamajo Doremi, which marked her debut as a voice actress. This role became one of the most defining parts of her career, as she continued to voice the character across multiple sequels, including Ojamajo Doremi Sharp, Mo~tto! Ojamajo Doremi, and the 2020 anniversary film Looking for Magical DoReMi, as well as various movies and CD dramas associated with the franchise.

Following her agency affiliation with Wakakusa from 1998 to 2001, Ishige moved to the Tokyo Actor's Consumer's Cooperative Society, also known as Haikyou, where she remained until 2009. She then worked as a freelancer before joining the agency D-Color from 2010 to 2014, after which she returned to freelance work. Throughout her career, she has been known by affectionate nicknames such as Sawa-chan and Sawatchi among fans and colleagues.

Ishige has built an extensive filmography across anime, video games, and drama CDs. In addition to her long-standing association with the Ojamajo Doremi series, she is widely recognized for her role as Izumi Orimoto, the voice of the Wind Spirit in Digimon Frontier, a part that also involved performing character songs. Another significant and recurring role in her career is Haruna Saotome in the Mahō Sensei Negima! franchise. She first voiced the character in the 2005 anime series and subsequently reprised it in multiple adaptations, including the 2006 series Negima!? Magister Negi Magi, the OVAs Mahō Sensei Negima!: Shiroki Tsubasa Ala Alba and Mahō Sensei Negima!: Mō Hitotsu no Sekai, the 2011 film Mahō Sensei Negima! Anime Final, and the 2017 sequel series UQ Holder!. Her involvement with the series extended beyond voice work, as she personally hand-drew the subtitle calligraphy for an episode of the 2006 anime.

Her other notable anime roles include Paiway Underberg in the Vandread series, Norma in A Little Snow Fairy Sugar, Ikue Ogawa in Girl's High, Makoto Shido in Idaten Jump, Kei in the Submarine 707R OVA, Benika Jūzawa in Kure-nai, and the twin sisters Yūma and Yūna Kashiwagi in Pani Poni Dash!. She has also appeared in long-running series such as InuYasha, Detective Conan, and Natsume's Book of Friends. Her work in video games includes the role of Mari in the Dream Club series and Maria Renard in Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles.

In addition to her voice acting, Ishige has a career as a singer, with a discography that includes solo albums and numerous character songs related to her anime roles. She has also contributed as a narrator for various media and participated in stage readings and live-action specials. Her voice is classified as soprano, and she is noted for her clear and cheerful tone, which has made her well-suited for playing energetic young girls and lively side characters throughout her more than two decades in the industry.
