Description
Haruna Saotome is a student at Mahora Academy and a prominent member of both the Library Exploration Club and the Manga Research Society. Known among her peers as a skilled rumor-monger and an aspiring manga artist who works under the pen name Paru, she maintains close friendships with her roommates and fellow club members Yue Ayase and Nodoka Miyazaki. As a group, they are often referred to as the Library Trio. Her physical appearance is characterized by long, waist-length hair, which is most commonly depicted as dark green, along with red eyes. She stands at a height of 162 centimeters.

In terms of personality, Haruna is highly energetic, upbeat, and sharp-witted. While she gets along well with others from the beginning, a defining trait is her talent for spreading information, a skill so developed that she is often the source of classroom gossip and can circulate a rumor to the far end of the school in a very short time. Despite her excitable nature, she performs well on school tests and is quite observant. This perceptiveness manifests in an unusual, quasi-meta ability to detect romantic feelings in those around her, playfully claiming she can smell a distinct "love reek" or using her bangs as imaginary antennae to sense affection.

Haruna's role in the story evolves significantly after she uncovers the secret that her ten-year-old teacher, Negi Springfield, is a magician. Unlike many classmates who react with shock or denial upon discovering the existence of magic, she wholeheartedly embraces this hidden world with enthusiasm, largely driven by her passion for creating stories about magical girls. Her primary motivation quickly becomes obtaining a magical artifact of her own. To this end, she resolves to form a Pactio, a probationary contract, with Negi, and impulsively kisses him the next time she sees him without fully understanding the mechanics of the contract. She becomes the sixth person to form such a bond with Negi.

Her key relationships are central to her character. Within the Library Exploration Club, she takes an active, often meddlesome, role as a matchmaker, persistently scheming to bring Nodoka and Negi closer together regardless of whether her help is wanted. She shares a notable rapport with the fairy merchant Chamo, and she plays a part in encouraging Yue to also enter into a contract with Negi. While she finds Negi endearing, her feelings never develop into romantic love, and she is content to support her friends in their pursuits.

Throughout the narrative, Haruna displays considerable development, particularly in her resourcefulness and strategic thinking. At first simply a comic relief character with a penchant for gossip, she becomes a cunning and invaluable member of Negi's party. She often acts as a voice of reason, able to understand complex motivations and outwit opponents. One of her most notable achievements occurs after she is separated from the group in the magical world; she uses her artistic talents to introduce manga to that world, earning enough money to purchase a large, goldfish-shaped airship she names the Paru-Sama, which later serves as a mobile base and transport for her allies.

Haruna's most notable ability comes from her Pactio artifact, known as Imperium Graphices. When activated, a sketchbook, artist's cap, apron, and feather quill materialize over her clothes. Using this artifact, any creature or object she draws in the sketchbook can be brought to life as a three-dimensional construct or golem. The function and power of these creations are limited only by her imagination and drawing speed, a skill at which she excels. She can create a wide range of constructs, from simple decoys and lifelike copies of herself to flying manta rays for transport, shield maidens for defense, and various combat golems. Her ability to draw at incredible speed allows her to adapt quickly in battle. Later in life, she channels her talents into a career as a best-selling author of BL manga, becoming highly successful in both the human and magical worlds.
