Yuu Asakawa
Description
Yuu Asakawa is a Japanese voice actress from Tokyo, born on March 20, 1975. She began her career in the voice acting industry after training at the Japan Narration Acting Institute and made her debut in 1997 with a role in the anime Those Who Hunt Elves 2. Initially affiliated with the agency Arts Vision, she became a freelancer on October 1, 2014.
Asakawa is widely recognized for her long-standing association with the Fate franchise, where she voices the character Rider, also known as Medusa. She has reprised this role across numerous adaptations, including the anime series Fate/stay night, the Unlimited Blade Works and Heaven's Feel film trilogies, and the comedic spinoff Carnival Phantasm and Today's Menu for the Emiya Family. In Fate/Grand Order - Absolute Demonic Front: Babylonia, she took on a dual role, voicing both the childlike servant Ana and her mature, monstrous form, Gorgon. During an interview, she mentioned that voicing Ana for the anime presented a unique challenge, as she had to develop the character's expressions and emotions beyond the limited context of the original game's voice lines.
Another significant and enduring role is that of the quiet and tall Sakaki in the beloved comedy series Azumanga Daioh. Her voice work often involves characters with a calm or strong demeanor, a trait also seen in her portrayal of Motoko Aoyama in Love Hina and her various roles throughout the long-running Ikki Tousen franchise, where she voices Shiryū Chō'un. Her versatility extends to a wide range of other notable series, including Leone in Akame ga Kill!, Momoyo Kawakami in Majikoi - Oh! Samurai Girls, Itoko Osakabe in School Rumble, Chisato Hasegawa in The Testament of Sister New Devil, and Satsuki Shinonome in Love, Election and Chocolate.
Beyond anime, Asakawa has a unique and notable achievement as the voice provider for the popular Vocaloid software, Megurine Luka, released by Crypton Future Media in 2009. She is also known for her fluency in English, a skill she honed during a study trip to Australia, and she holds a black belt in judo.
