Kazuhito was raised believing himself a prince, second in line for succession, under the care of the Retired Emperor's younger brother. His true parentage lies with the Minister of the Center and the Madam of the Sixth Pavilion of the Murakami-Genji family. Embittered by the denial of royal status for her lineage, his biological mother swapped him with one of the Retired Emperor's sons shortly after their simultaneous births, as the infants were indistinguishable.
Fueled by arrogance and a conviction in his inherent right to rule, Kazuhito harbors intense jealousy toward the current Emperor and Crown Prince Akifumi. He perceives their positions as unfairly gained through the Retired Emperor's favoritism towards their mother. This resentment was cultivated in his youth by his biological mother, who lavished him with praise while denigrating Akifumi and Motomi. Learning from his adoptive father about the circumstances favoring Akifumi, Kazuhito fled the imperial household with his loyal guardian, Tokitomo, resolved to seize the throne by any means necessary.
His ambition drives him to form an alliance with the demon Akram, who grants both Kazuhito and Tokitomo dark powers. Using these powers, Kazuhito repeatedly casts spiritual defilements and curses within the imperial palace, aiming to induce illness or misfortune upon the Emperor and Akifumi. He also attempts to steal talismans collected by the priestess Karin, believing they grant unlimited power, though these attempts consistently fail. When confronted by Karin and her allies, he denies his actions, reacting with angry tantrums, demanding instant obedience, and insulting defiance.
Kazuhito intensifies his efforts as Akram replenishes his dark power. However, learning the truth of his birth—whether from Akifumi or Motomi—shatters his resolve. Refusing initial acceptance, he orders Tokitomo to unleash their full power against Karin's party. Following another defeat, Akram abandons him, revealing he never believed in Kazuhito and merely used him to strengthen the priestess, forcing Kazuhito to confront his powerlessness and manipulation.
This revelation sparks significant development. Retreating to his mansion with Tokitomo, he reflects on his actions and begins reforming his temperament. His hostility toward Akifumi and Motomi shifts to positivity upon witnessing their empathy for him, and he expresses profound gratitude for Tokitomo's unwavering loyalty. In a later epilogue scenario, he bashfully thanks Karin for saving him and promises to repay her kindness.
Kazuhito is 19 years old, stands 163 cm tall, and has blood type A. His birthday is July 3. In the OVA adaptation, he orders attendants to apprehend Karin after she accidentally knocks off his cloak in the capital streets, displaying his quick temper and entitlement. He later attempts to frame Akifumi for treason during a political struggle.
