Description
Medusa appears in the anime Fate/Grand Order: First Order as a Lancer-class Servant, known as Medusa Alter, and serves as an antagonist in the Fuyuki Singularity. She is the youngest of the three Gorgon Sisters from Greek mythology, a goddess who was once a perfect idol but eventually fell and transformed into the monster Gorgon. Her background is marked by the tragedy of taking in her elder sisters during her monstrous rampage, a memory that haunts her and causes her to instinctively fear growth and transformation.

In personality, Medusa is moderate, quiet, and wary of humans. Though she possesses a grim determination in battle, she does not easily form bonds with others and keeps a guarded distance. Her motivations are tied to her role as a Servant bound to the Holy Grail, acting as an enemy to the protagonists in the singularity. She displays a sense of composure and seriousness, but there remains a lingering sorrow beneath her calm exterior.

Her role in Fate/Grand Order: First Order is that of a formidable opponent encountered by the Chaldea team. She fights with a two-handed lance, said to be endowed with the power of immortal slaying, though its true identity is kept ambiguous. She is not easily swayed and engages in combat with ruthless efficiency.

Key relationships include her elder sisters, Stheno and Euryale, whom she deeply loved and later inadvertently absorbed in her monstrous form. This past creates a longing to reunite with them, which is a driving emotional force for her. Her interactions with her Master in other contexts show a hesitance to get close, but also a latent desire for connection.

Medusa’s development is defined by her struggle with her own nature. She fears the accumulation of experience that might lead her back to becoming a monster, and thus she is initially reluctant to grow or form attachments. However, when reassured that change does not equate to corruption, she shows relief and openness.

Her notable abilities include the Mystic Eyes Cybele, which allow her to petrify enemies with a glance, and Monstrous Strength, which temporarily amplifies her physical power. She wields the Noble Phantasm Bellerophon, a charge attack that summons Pegasus, though in her Lancer form she primarily uses her lance in close combat. She also has the skill Blood Fort Andromeda, which boosts her magical energy and NP gain. Her combat style emphasizes quick, decisive strikes and area-of-effect damage, but she lacks sustained single-target power and defensive options, making her reliant on timing and support.
