OVA
Description
Tōji Hisami, known as Twelve, escaped the Rising Peace Academy alongside Nine after a fire they ignited destroyed the facility. This fire ended the covert Athena Plan, which had sought to transform orphaned children with savant syndrome into weapons. Only three children survived: Twelve, Nine, and Five.
Twelve boasted exceptional intellect, featuring advanced problem-solving skills and a photographic memory that enabled him to instantly recall complex details like security camera schematics or student rosters. His synesthesia allowed him to perceive sounds as colors, such as describing a voice as "pale-yellow." He also possessed heightened senses, detecting traces like chlorine or smoke before others could.
Operating as "Sphinx #2" in the terrorist duo Sphinx, Twelve wore a yellow mask in their threat videos. Their intricate bombings, targeting structures like the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building and police facilities, were paired with riddles inspired by sources like Oedipus Rex. These attacks aimed to expose the Athena Plan's atrocities. Despite his capacity for ruthless violence, Twelve showed deep empathy, particularly towards bullied classmate Lisa Mishima, whom he protected and involved in their operations, balancing acts of kindness against necessary brutality.
His personality mixed lighthearted playfulness with intense focus. He employed humor, favored colorful clothing with red accents, and accessorized with Icelandic references. He relished motorcycle riding and demonstrated skill in evading authorities. However, trauma from the Athena Project surfaced in moments of psychological detachment.
In their final operation, Twelve and Nine plotted to detonate a stolen atomic bomb. Following a stratospheric detonation that caused a massive blackout, U.S. forces surrounded them. A sniper fatally shot Twelve during the standoff. His death preceded Nine's surrender of the bomb trigger to Detective Shibazaki, who vowed to reveal the Athena Plan's truth.
His alias, Hisami Tōji, incorporated the kanji for ten (十) and two (二). He preferred foods like curry and soba and frequently wore a red watch on his right wrist.
