Description
Mandra Doltrake is a prominent member of the Salamandra community in Little Garden, serving as leader of its Military Police and adviser to the Floor Master. He is the older brother of Sandora Doltrake and has an elder sister, Sala Doltrake, who abandoned the community years prior. Mandra belongs to the salamander species, a humanoid dragon lineage featuring bronze skin, pointed ears, and multiple sets of horns. Prominent black horns frame the sides of his head, accompanied by smaller horns on his chin. His dark red hair is cropped short with a small downward-pointing front bang. Mandra typically wears a formal military uniform: a dark green overcoat with white and gold detailing and the red Salamandra insignia on the back, layered over a dark teal robe. He consistently carries a sword and dagger.
Mandra's personality features strict adherence to rules, formality, and unwavering loyalty to Salamandra. He exhibits deep contempt for perceived threats to the community's honor or stability, especially individuals or groups without established community names like the No Names. This rigidity stems partly from his youth, when Mandra's dragon horns showed poor development, causing physical limitations compared to his sisters. His elder sister Sala's departure forced his youngest sister Sandora into premature leadership, intensifying Mandra's protective instincts and commitment to Salamandra's protocols. He prioritizes political alliances with powerful entities as a survival strategy, often displaying hostility toward former allies if their status diminishes.
His narrative involvement centers on protecting Sandora and advancing Salamandra's interests. When Sandora summons the No Names to prevent a Demon Lord attack during her coronation festival, Mandra opposes their presence, viewing them as dishonorable. He confronts Jin Russel and clashes with Sakamaki Izayoi, though their dynamic evolves after Izayoi exposes and indirectly forgives Mandra's role in a conspiracy. This conspiracy involved Salamandra luring the Demon Lord to the festival as a test of Sandora's capabilities, a plan known to all community leaders except Sandora herself. When Izayoi threatens retribution if No Names members are harmed, Mandra offers his own life in exchange for sparing Salamandra, demonstrating his willingness to bear ultimate responsibility. This leads to a negotiated agreement where Salamandra pledges future aid to the No Names.
Later, during the Demon Lord's attack and the Gift Game <<UNDERWOOD MAZE>>, Mandra assists in evacuating civilians and coordinating defenses, remaining pragmatic—he threatens to execute plague-infected individuals to contain the Black Death pathogen. His tactical contributions include identifying rule contradictions to suspend the game and locating critical artifacts to defeat the antagonist community, Grim Grimoire Hamelin. Despite ongoing friction with Izayoi, Mandra gradually develops a grudging respect for him due to repeated collaborations maintaining Koen City's stability.
Mandra possesses natural abilities as a Lesser Dragon, granting strength surpassing humans. He demonstrates proficiency in swordsmanship through consistent training and combat readiness, though specific Gifts remain undeveloped or unobserved due to his underdeveloped horns. His role expands in later volumes (6-11), involving him in broader conflicts and strategic decisions within Salamandra's hierarchy.
