Description
Chuck Gavin is a human stunt pilot and member of the Flying Angels aerobatic team. A sphere of light from space collided with his aircraft during a routine flight, merging him with the extraterrestrial entity Ultraman Chuck. This granted him the ability to transform into the Ultra-being. At 35 years old, he serves as the oldest and unofficial leader of the trio known as the Ultra Force, alongside Scott Masterson and Beth O’Brien.
Ultraman Chuck originates from Planet Altara in Nebula M78 and is approximately 14,000 years old. His design incorporates visual elements from the Ultras Zoffy and Ultraman King. He stands 79 meters tall, weighs 68,000 tons, and possesses physical capabilities enabling flight at Mach 22, running at Mach 6, forearm strength of 220,000 tons, and grip strength of 95,000 tons. Transformation into Ultraman Chuck initially occurred during life-threatening situations but later became activatable at will, signaled by a flash in his eyes. No external device is required for this process.
In *Ultraman: The Adventure Begins*, his first transformation happened accidentally as he attempted to protect Zoon, a non-aggressive monster from the destroyed planet Sorkin. After Zoon damaged his plane, he transformed and relocated Zoon to a safe planet. This act was misinterpreted as treason by military forces, leading to missile attacks against the Ultra Force. During the conflict with King Myra in New York City, Ultraman Chuck trapped the monster in an energy bubble. Alongside Ultraman Scott and Ultrawoman Beth, he transported King Myra to the sun for elimination. This victory solidified the Ultra Force’s commitment to remain on Earth as its protectors.
Ultraman Chuck appeared in several cross-media events:
- In *Mega Monster Battle: Ultra Galaxy*, he fought Ultraman Belial but was defeated and frozen during the assault on the Land of Light.
- During the *Ultraman Ginga* prequel Dark Spark War, he battled alongside multiple Ultras against Dark Lugiel, only to be transformed into a Spark Doll.
- In *Ultra Galaxy Fight: The Destined Crossroad*, he deployed to Planet Babel alongside his Ultra Force teammates and Ribut to intercept the Absolutian Titan. The team later joined reinforcements to repel the Absolutian leader Tartarus.
- For *Ultraman Regulos: First Mission*, he and Ultrawoman Beth engaged Star Bem Gyeron, expressing empathy for its tragic origins before defeating it.
His abilities include the Granium Beam, a standard cross-formation energy attack; the Ultra Bubble Beam, generating containment bubbles for monster transport; and the Ultra Slicer, an energy buzzsaw usable as a melee weapon or shield. Combination techniques with the Ultra Force include the Ultra Synchro Beam and multi-Ultra beam attacks. Additional capabilities encompass flight, space travel via light spheres, and enhanced physical combat.
Personality-wise, Ultraman Chuck demonstrates wisdom, responsibility, and a protective instinct, evident in his defense of the benign Zoon. He adopts a militaristic and tactical approach during battles, often directing team strategy. His leadership is characterized by determination, summarized in his credo: "We’ll save it or die trying. It’s why we were given a second chance."
