Description
Akira Akatsuki, the younger son of Japanese DISK technology co-developer Dr. Nozomu Akatsuki, lived in Japan with his brother Hikaru and their aunt while their father worked in America. Akira possesses a cheerful, impulsive, and adventurous personality marked by a strong sense of justice, frequently acting recklessly to aid others regardless of consequences. This impulsiveness caused him and Hikaru to miss their initial flight to the DISK presentation at the Raft prison, requiring Pepper Potts to arrange alternate transport.

During the presentation, Loki triggered a prison break, trapping most Avengers in DISKs. When his father was injured, Akira protected the biocode installer, resulting in Akira and four other children (Hikaru, Chris Taylor, Edward Grant, Jessica Shannon) receiving partial biocodes after the installer was damaged. Akira's biocode connected him to Tech-class heroes, primarily Iron Man, allowing him to temporarily release them via "D-Smashing" for about five minutes before a six-hour recharge. He became Iron Man's partner, earning the nickname "Samurai Boy" for his determination and heritage. Their partnership involved frequent clashes between Akira's impulsiveness and technological ineptitude and Iron Man's strategic thinking, though mutual respect grew over time.

Akira's father's birthday gift of roller skates was later upgraded by Stark into jet-propelled "booster skates" to improve his mission mobility. He participated in multiple conflicts: helping defeat Loki's forces, thwarting Red Skull's global takeover attempt, and battling Ultron after the AI gained sentience. During these events, Akira gained additional Tech-class partners, War Machine and Falcon, by synchronizing his biocode or performing emergency "D-Secures." A significant arc saw Akira reopening a portal to the Dark Dimension against Iron Man's orders, inadvertently freeing Ronin—later revealed as his brainwashed father, Nozomu Akatsuki. This caused temporary estrangement from Iron Man due to withheld information about Ronin's identity, but Akira ultimately helped rescue his father from Dormammu's influence.

Post-battles, Dr. Akatsuki developed a complete biocode, enabling the permanent release of all DISK-trapped heroes. Due to unforeseen biocode evolution, Akira and the others voluntarily had their biocodes removed, erasing their memories of the events. However, seeing news of the Avengers' arrest by S.H.I.E.L.D. restored Akira's memories. He rejoined the final conflict against Dormammu and Loki, using his residual biocode to empower Iron Man's "Build Up Armor" one last time, aiding Loki's defeat after Akira and allies delivered the Kree Macguffin (Mact) to Iron Man during the battle.

Three months later, Akira resumed studies while working as a S.H.I.E.L.D. lab assistant under his father. He maintained his aspiration to build his own powered armor, a promise made to Iron Man during their farewell. Iron Man later sought him out again for assistance against a new threat.
