Description
Lunafreya Nox Fleuret, known as Luna, is the former princess of Tenebrae, conquered by the Niflheim Empire. After her mother Queen Sylva died during Tenebrae's invasion, Luna ascended as the youngest Oracle in history. Blessed to commune with Eos's deities, the Astrals, and heal victims of the Starscourge plague, she earned global reverence. This role strained her relationship with her brother Ravus, who resented the Lucian royal family for their perceived abandonment. Despite imperial captivity, Tenebrae retained limited autonomy under her leadership.
As children, Luna and Prince Noctis Lucis Caelum bonded while he recuperated in Tenebrae. She revealed his destiny as the Chosen King destined to purge the world's darkness. They maintained secret correspondence through her magical messenger dog, Umbra, using a shared notebook containing a pressed sylleblossom—a blue flower native to her homeland that she cultivated. Their arranged marriage later became a condition of a peace treaty between Lucis and Niflheim.
During the events of *Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV*, Luna was brought to Insomnia for the treaty signing, having previously attempted an independent escape from Tenebrae. In Insomnia, Kingsglaive soldier Nyx Ulric gave her a hairpin, originally a gift from the deceased glaive Crowe Altius. After Niflheim betrayed Lucis and abducted her, she refused passive rescue, insisting on returning to King Regis despite the war-torn city. Witnessing Regis's murder, she was entrusted with the Ring of the Lucii, a Lucian heirloom containing the power of past kings, to deliver to Noctis. She discarded the hairpin upon learning it was a tracer and tricked a traitorous glaive to his demise using the ring's power. Luna escaped Insomnia's fall with Nyx's aid, though he perished wielding the ring's magic.
Fleeing Insomnia, Luna traveled Eos to awaken the Astrals, forging covenants so they would lend power to Noctis. This task physically weakened her, drawing concern from Ravus, who opposed her sacrifices for Noctis. She persisted, believing in his destiny. In Altissia, she delivered a public speech before awakening Leviathan, the Hydraean. During the rite, Ardyn Izunia, Niflheim's chancellor, inflicted a mortal wound. With her dying strength, Luna healed Noctis, awakened the Lucian kings' spirits, and entrusted him with the Ring of the Lucii before Leviathan's waves swept her away. Her spirit later guided Noctis in visions.
An alternate narrative in *Final Fantasy XV -The Dawn of the Future-* depicts Luna surviving Ardyn's attack but suffering daemonic corruption that disfigured her right arm. She allied with Ardyn and the Astral Bahamut to defy fate, rejecting her Oracle role and embracing darker attire. This defiant path led her to aid Ardyn's redemption while challenging the gods' designs.
