Description
Ignis Scientia is a primary adviser and retainer to Prince Noctis Lucis Caelum, a role assigned to him at the age of six. Born into House Scientia, a family of royal retainers, he underwent an intensive and specialized education to cultivate the resourcefulness, composure, and tactical acumen necessary to counsel the heir apparent. This training prepared him to act as both a staff officer and a trusted consultant.

Raised alongside Noctis, Ignis developed a close, familial bond with the prince that extended beyond formal duty. From a young age, he assumed caretaking responsibilities, particularly after the loss of Noctis’s mother, managing his diet, encouraging his studies, and maintaining his living quarters. This instilled in him a deep-seated loyalty and protective instinct that would come to define his character.

Ignis exhibits a composed, serious, and analytical demeanor, often serving as the group's stabilizing force. He is a perfectionist who dislikes ambiguity, preferring precise strategies and detailed planning. Although typically calm, he can display a more reckless and sacrificial side when Noctis’s safety is threatened.

His duties are multifaceted: he acts as the primary driver of the party’s automobile, the Regalia, and serves as the group’s chef, preparing meals that provide statistical benefits. His interest in cooking began at age ten after hearing about a pastry Noctis enjoyed in Tenebrae, and he takes great pride in honing his culinary skills through research and practice.

In combat, Ignis wields daggers and polearms with high proficiency, adept at switching grips and throwing knives with precision. He is the party’s most skilled magic user, capable of infusing weapons with elemental damage and employing unique elemental spelldagger techniques. His tactical role includes analyzing enemy weaknesses and devising battle strategies.

A pivotal moment occurs in Altissia when, during a battle with Leviathan, Ignis uses the Ring of the Lucii in a desperate attempt to rescue Noctis. This act results in permanent blindness. Though initially hindered, he retrains himself through sheer determination, sharpening his remaining senses to remaster cooking, combat, and navigation without sight. He eventually abandons mobility aids and hunts daemons independently during the world’s eternal night.

The downloadable content Episode Ignis further explores these events, revealing that his use of the ring was a sacrifice to protect Noctis from Ardyn Izunia. This DLC also presents an alternate narrative in which his actions successfully avert the world’s grim fate. His story continues in the novel *Final Fantasy XV: The Dawn of the Future*, which expands on these alternate events.

After the timeskip, Ignis is shown fully adapted to his blindness, having replaced his glasses with dark visors and grown out his hair. He remains a faithful companion to Noctis, accompanying him to the final confrontation in Insomnia. Official media also notes his temporary alliance with Ravus Nox Fleuret during the Altissia incident.

Across all portrayals, his character is defined by unwavering loyalty, intellectual prowess, and a readiness for profound personal sacrifice in service of his duty and friendship to Noctis.
