Description
Virgil Carson, a Gilgamesh Confederation soldier reassigned to the Red Shoulder Battalion alongside Chirico Cuvie, interrupts other recruits harassing Chirico during transit to Planet Odon, noting his existing injuries and displaying early protective instincts. Upon arrival, both endure a lethal live-fire exercise disguised as a simulation. Carson follows Chirico's tactical guidance to evade Red Shoulder attackers, relying on Chirico's instincts for survival. Successfully navigating this ordeal earns them induction into the Red Shoulders.
Within the unit, Carson positions himself as Chirico's ally. He physically removes Chirico from confrontations instigated by Gregor Galosh, Baiman Haggard, and Muza Merime during Chirico's seizure episodes triggered by questions about his obscured past. Carson provides covering fire during multiple assassination attempts orchestrated by Commander Ihle Lehman, facilitating Chirico's escapes, and ultimately joins Chirico and the others when Lehman falsely brands them deserters.
On Planet Sunsa, Carson is mortally wounded when his Scopedog is ambushed by a Balarant Union Fatty Armored Trooper. With his dying breaths, he reveals his true role: a military intelligence agent embedded within the Red Shoulders under Gilgamesh High Command orders. His objectives were investigating Colonel Yoran Pailsen's clandestine operations concerning Chirico and gathering evidence of Pailsen's unauthorized activities, including the pursuit of creating unkillable soldiers. Carson confirms he successfully transmitted his findings before the mission, directly enabling Pailsen's subsequent arrest.
