Description
Maho Orihara holds the position of chief navigator and operator for the Enhanced Cognition Interface system aboard the rebuilt Space Battleship Yamato during the mission to evacuate Earth from the Cascade Black Hole threat. Her duties involve piloting the ship's navigation systems from the third bridge and employing the ECI to dissect complex spatial phenomena, including pinpointing singularities within artificial black hole structures.

In the original 2009 narrative of Resurrection, Maho encounters mortal peril during Yamato's decisive clash with the Cascade Black Hole. As the ship discharges its Transition Wave-Motion Gun into the singularity, the third bridge suffers catastrophic damage from the energy backlash. The compartment's armor tears open, exposing Maho and her assistants to the vacuum of space moments before Earth's salvation. This sequence marks her final appearance in that version. The Director's Cut revision, however, presents a different outcome: Earth succumbs to the black hole without Yamato's intervention. Maho survives unscathed aboard the intact vessel and appears on the main bridge when Captain Kodai sets course for the galactic center upon learning of Earth's reappearance.

Expanded lore from the novel *Dawn Chapter: Aquarius Algorithm* reveals Maho's earlier connection to the Yamato legacy. At age fourteen, she became involved with Susumu Kodai and the Aquarius ice asteroid operations years prior to the events of Resurrection, placing her within the broader context of Yamato's reconstruction era.

Personality assessments characterize Maho as highly intelligent and technically proficient. She remains calm and rational under pressure, applying analytical precision to problem-solving while maintaining focus during critical operations. Her demeanor reflects logical task prioritization and pragmatic decision-making, occasionally perceived as emotionally detached or direct in communication.
