Description
Russell of the Water serves as one of the Demon Army's Four Heavenly Kings. Originally engineered as a combat chimera by an ancient civilization to exterminate humanity, he retains memories of this purpose. His mission brings him to Toris Kingdom, where he attends a welcome party and partners with fellow Heavenly King Heine to operate an excavated ancient giant robot against Kisaragi agents, ending in defeat after the robot's destruction.
Physically, Russell presents a slim, feminine figure with pale skin, heterochromia (a multicolored right eye and light blue left eye), and medium-length silver hair featuring blue streaks. His attire typically consists of a sleeveless white shirt, blue vest, denim shorts cuffed at the thighs, ankle-high brown boots, and a long blue scarf. Non-human traits include a fish tail, gills on his arms, and bandages wrapped around his right thigh. While captured, he is forced to wear a French maid outfit: a frilled dress with white apron, thigh-high socks, and short gloves.
Personality-wise, Russell displays arrogance and disdain, viewing humans as toys and openly desiring their destruction. Yet he shows loyalty to demon comrades, exhibiting gentleness towards Heine and attempting camaraderie with fellow chimera Rose. Animalistic instincts drive him to submit to stronger beings like Tiger Man, leading to compliance with demands such as wearing the maid outfit or serving as a body pillow. He also develops a fondness for Demon Lord Viper, frequently sleeping in her office.
His primary ability is potent water magic, capable of generating unlimited water to supply entire kingdoms with sufficient food intake. This magic holds healing properties due to water's restorative nature. He briefly pilots an ancient humanoid robot weapon excavated from Toris ruins.
Key relationships involve his partnership with Heine of the Flame, marked by friction due to her viewing him as a child. Capture by Tiger Man creates a dynamic of forced servitude and physical proximity. As a fellow chimera, Russell seeks connection with Rose, who remains distant. After capture by Kisaragi, he works as a maid maintaining Grace Kingdom's water supplies and tending to combat agents, adapting to this role.
Russell's arc shifts from an antagonist within the Demon Army to a captive servant for Kisaragi. Despite his hatred for humans, he adapts to menial tasks like cleaning and water provision. His popularity is evidenced by a 12th-place finish in the series' character contest.
