OVA
Description
Imu is a third-year student at Hebijo Clandestine Girls' Academy and a playable character in the Senran Kagura series, making her debut in Senran Kagura: Shinovi Versus. She stands at 157 centimeters tall and has light brown hair styled with two buns on the sides of her head, along with dark green eyes. Her most distinctive physical trait is her glasses, which she wears almost constantly, even when in her shinobi form. Born on June 9th, her ninja motif is the fox, and her favorite food is inari sushi.

Imu's personality is defined by a powerful, often singular focus on her best friend, Miyabi. She is described as kind, caring, and brave, but also somewhat naive and serious with a boyish demeanor that only becomes feminine when she is around Miyabi or her younger sister, Murasaki. Her loyalty to Miyabi is absolute; she often expresses extreme jealousy towards anyone who gets close to her friend and is willing to sacrifice her own life to protect her. This devotion stems from a shared traumatic past. While generally calm and collected, Imu has a fierce temper that flares up when someone insults Miyabi, her sister, or their school. She also harbors a specific and comical grudge against her rival, Hikage, which is triggered by incidents involving her underwear or simple mentions of it.

The core of Imu's background is a tragic series of events that forged her unbreakable bond with Miyabi. As children, the two of them were attacked by a monstrous yoma, an incident that led to the death of Miyabi's mother. This event drove them to become shinobi and swear vengeance on all yoma. Years later, during a mission, both Imu and Miyabi witnessed the slaughter of their allies by another yoma. In desperation, Miyabi used a forbidden ninja art, lost control of herself, and was left mentally incapacitated. Imu stopped her friend but subsequently abandoned her shinobi duties for a full year to nurse Miyabi back to health, staying by her side day and night until she recovered. This decision had severe consequences for her relationship with her younger sister, Murasaki, who already felt neglected due to the family's attention on her special powers and subsequently became a shut-in.

In the OVA Senran Kagura: Estival Versus - Festival Eve Full of Swimsuits, Imu appears alongside her teammates from Hebijo as they take a break from overseeing the reconstruction of their academy. Her role in the story is primarily as a supporting member of Miyabi's group. She joins the other girls in a temporary truce at a spa resort, which quickly devolves into a competitive water battle. True to her character, her actions and motivations revolve around Miyabi, and she participates in the ensuing chaotic festivities with the rest of the Hebijo students.

Imu's key relationships are the primary drivers of her character. Her relationship with Miyabi is the most significant, defined by lifelong friendship, deep love, and a fierce protectiveness that borders on obsession. She is also the older sister of Murasaki, a relationship complicated by past jealousy over Murasaki's innate power, the "Root of Calamity," and guilt over her own neglect. Despite these issues, Imu loves her sister deeply and is constantly trying to coax her out of her room. After a violent misunderstanding involving the sisters Ryobi and Ryona, Imu unlocked her own Root of Calamity power to protect Murasaki, leading to a reconciliation with the two sisters, who are now her friends and comrades. Her relationship with Hikage is one of rivalry and animosity, largely due to past pranks Hikage played on her, though Hikage often remains indifferent to Imu's challenges.

Throughout the series, Imu undergoes notable development. She begins her shinobi career feeling inadequate compared to both Miyabi and Murasaki. After abandoning her training to care for Miyabi, her combat skills atrophied, leaving her with abilities lower than expected for a graduate. However, her love for her sister ultimately unlocks her latent potential, the Root of Calamity, proving her strength. Her arc moves from one of jealousy and guilt to one of protective action, as she learns to balance her devotion to Miyabi with her responsibility towards Murasaki.

In combat, Imu wields a shaolin staff, specifically a Ruyi Bang, which she can magically manipulate to change its length and thickness. Her fighting style is lightning-based, specializing in high-speed attacks and techniques that can paralyze her opponents. While her attack power is not the highest among her peers, she compensates with incredible speed and dashes, making her a hit-and-run specialist. Her signature ninja arts include "Rolling Thunder," where she spins her staff to build up electrical energy before launching it, and "Thunder Fox," which summons spiritual foxes from her staff to charge at her enemies at unblockable speeds. This combination of speed, electrical manipulation, and a versatile weapon makes her a formidable opponent.
