Description
Captain Pikachu, nicknamed Cap, is an Electric-type Pokémon belonging to Professor Friede but currently in Roy's care. Originating as a wild Pikachu in Paldea, he fiercely pursued a dream of flight. Before capture, he repeatedly executed a circular Volt Tackle maneuver to create a tornado-like updraft, launching himself high to witness distant sunrises over the horizon. These attempts frequently caused minor injuries, yet he persisted despite the physical cost. His determination drew the attention of Friede and Lucca, though he reacted with hostility to their approach, attacking Friede and refusing offered medical aid.

Following a fall during one flight attempt, Friede and his Charizard rescued him. Friede shared his vision of exploring horizons, promising Pikachu new sights and adventures. This act forged their bond, leading Pikachu to accept Friede as his Trainer. Later, Friede presented him with a captain's hat, symbolizing his role as the namesake and leader of the adventuring group, the Rising Volt Tacklers. Their airship, the Brave Olivine, became his primary vantage point for observing new horizons.

His personality blends leadership, determination, and occasional stubbornness. He demonstrates a strong sense of responsibility, notably training younger Pokémon like Liko's Sprigatito and Roy's Fuecoco in battle and evasion techniques. He dislikes being called "cute," reacting with sneezing fits that momentarily distract him, though this doesn't significantly hinder his combat effectiveness. His battle style emphasizes agility and tactical prowess, leveraging speed and evasion alongside powerful Electric-type attacks.

In combat, Volt Tackle serves as his signature move, alongside Thunderbolt, Thunder Punch, and the non-Electric move Double Team—a distinction from other prominent Pikachu. He engages in significant conflicts, such as battles against the Explorers' Amethio and his Ceruledge, often acting as a strategic diversion or protector. His combat experience includes solo engagements against multiple opponents, like simultaneously defeating Roy's Fuecoco and Wattrel.

Beyond the main series, he features in promotional media including the Pokémon Mezastar arcade game and Pokémon GO as a limited-time encounter. An unnumbered trading card featuring him was also released as a promotional item.
