Hanabi serves as the middle sister among the Mikagura Sisters. She and her sisters, alongside Naraku, grew up secluded in a traditional village. During childhood, they secretly befriended a mysterious older girl clad in a white cult dress with red ribbons, defying the village ban on outside contact. This girl warned them of an imminent Yōma attack, but fearing elder disapproval and doubting the threat, the sisters kept silent. When the Yōma attacked at night, they witnessed the stranger battle the parasitic demon. The stranger was swallowed but destroyed the Yōma from within using a kamikaze technique, leaving only one ribbon behind. This event profoundly affected the sisters, who never learned the stranger was Kagura. Hanabi possesses an energetic and athletic personality with a straightforward thought process. Complex questions or deep thinking cause her agitation, often triggering literal explosive outbursts involving fireworks. She is self-aware of her limitations and expresses remorse when her actions cause trouble. Hanabi exhibits great enthusiasm and expertise in pyrotechnics, openly delighting in surprising others with explosive devices. During the Estival Versus events, Hanabi and her sisters acted as Festival Overseers energizing the Shinobi Bon Dance. They disrupted or taunted guest teams they deemed unserious. Hanabi experienced multiple near-explosive episodes requiring her sisters or Sayuri to calm her. Later, the sisters secretly searched the island for Kagura, mistakenly believing her dead. Their suspicious inactivity led to temporary detention by Sayuri and Ryōki, until Kafuru fabricated an excuse to secure their release. Despite a thorough search, they only found Kagura by chance. Kagura challenged them to become Kaguras to earn the right to see her again. Accepting, they actively destroyed rival festival platforms to win the Shinobi Bon Dance. They ambushed and defeated Homura's weakened Crimson Squad, but Asuka ultimately thwarted them. They failed to achieve Kagura status, though Asuka expressed sympathy for their goal. Hanabi's explosive reaction to complex thought recurs: fireworks activated while pondering a riddle ("What has four legs in the morning, two during the day, and three at night?"), and she distracts herself to avoid deep contemplation about life's complexities, space farming, or alien biology to prevent detonation. She questions if others share this reaction. Hanabi expressed admiration for Homura's impulsiveness during an encounter and attempted to imitate Miyabi's flowery speech, much to Renka's dismay. Homura and Miyabi declared Hanabi an ally sharing their "selfsame soul" during this heated confrontation, delighting Hanabi despite Renka's attempts to ground her.
