Description
Gakko Ibuki operates as an anti-oni specialist for Team Hao during the Flower of Maize event. Hailing from Akita Prefecture, he sports multicolored hair in a messy pompadour: red on top and center with blue braided sections on the sides. His attire is a black and gold Babylon-branded tracksuit featuring the brand mascot, complemented by fishhook earrings and three bracelets per wrist labeled blue, green, and red.
Aloof and dismissive of tradition, Gakko openly declares his ambition to become the strongest man alive. He thrives on combat, exhibits little patience for conventional norms, and frequently bickers with his guardian ghost, Namaha. His abilities focus on the Cloud technique and summoning a replica of Asakura Hao from his third life. Namaha alters her appearance during battles to intimidate opponents. Together, they manifest the Oversoul "Ogre Hunter," appearing as armor-like coverage under a straw cloak, wielding a large cannon in one hand and a knife in the other.
Gakko first appears visiting a cemetery on Funbari Hill, encountering Asakura Hana. After provoking Hana by mocking his solitude, their confrontation escalates into a fight. Recognizing Hana’s shaman status, Gakko activates Ogre Hunter and bisects his condensed Naka-Oni armor, securing victory. Namaha later deduces Hana’s identity as the Asakura heir and Team Hao’s leader, leading to Gakko’s formal induction into the team by Alumi Numbirch. The next day, Gakko explains the Flower of Maize rules to Hana and reiterates his goal of achieving ultimate strength.
During Tao Men’s assault on Hana, Gakko intervenes but fails to withstand Men’s "Chāo Mǎ Lóng" technique, which destroys his Ogre Hunter. This precedes Hana’s fatal summoning of Daidarabotchi. After Hana’s death, Gakko participates in Team Hao’s training initiative proposed by Alumi. He later confronts Team YVS members—Redseb, Seyrarm, and Black Maiden—during their attack on Funbari Onsen, observing as Black Maiden retaliates against Men using an Oversoul forged from Men’s mother’s spirit, an assault halted by the Hana-Gumi Waitresses and Tamamura Tamao.
Gakko is identified as transgender, confirmed in chapter 38 of the manga. His name connects to Akita Prefecture’s dialect, where "Gakko" means "pickled," referencing the region’s iburigakko smoked daikon pickles. This naming also ties to the local Namahage legend.
