Snarl hails from the Jungle Planet and maintains profound loyalty to his pacifist mentor, Backstop. He originally trained alongside Scourge under Backstop's tutelage amid planetary turmoil. While disagreeing with Scourge's abandonment of Backstop's principles, Snarl followed Scourge to observe his activities. Scourge eventually imposed tyrannical order, becoming a corrupt dictator. Snarl and Undermine served as Scourge's bodyguards, protecting his temple from intruders. Their duty faced challenge when Megatron and Starscream demanded entry; distrusting Megatron, Snarl abandoned his post to seek Backstop's counsel.
Backstop had rescued Overhaul, an injured Autobot whose testimony of Megatron's destructive quest for the Cyber Planet Keys contradicted Megatron's claims. This revelation spurred Snarl to arrange a meeting between Overhaul and Scourge. The audience deteriorated as Overhaul's confrontational style provoked Scourge into a duel. Witnessing Scourge overpower Overhaul, Snarl intervened to save the Autobot from fatal burns, concealing him within an active volcano. There, Overhaul adapted to intense heat and challenged Scourge anew. Snarl observed the rematch covertly but was discovered by Megatron, who declared him a traitor and delivered him to Scourge. Overhaul, transformed into Leobreaker using the Jungle Planet's Cyber Planet Key, rescued Snarl from execution.
Following Optimus Prime and Vector Prime's arrival on Jungle Planet, Snarl explained Leobreaker's evolution and insisted on joining the Autobot mission to secure the Cyber Planet Keys, citing his planet's stake. Optimus accepted, but Scourge attacked the group, threatening Snarl for betrayal. Optimus Prime and Leobreaker combined to repel Scourge. Later, Snarl mediated a clash between Leobreaker and Optimus over confronting Scourge, guiding the furious Leobreaker to the volcano. There, Snarl recounted his shared past with Scourge and Backstop, calming Leobreaker and enabling his reconciliation with Optimus. The Autobots then agreed to confront Scourge on his terms, with Snarl advocating for measured strategy despite his own preference for direct action.
Snarl communicates minimally and constantly craves combat. Yet, he demonstrates careful planning and tactical cunning, prioritizing ally safety and refusing to abandon them to Scourge's cruelty. His loyalty shifts from Scourge to the Autobots due to their shared goal of protecting Jungle Planet. Statistically, he excels in speed (8.5), courage (9), and skill (9), with significant strength (8) and endurance (7.5), reflecting his role as a frontline warrior and survivalist in harsh environments.
