Land Barret, alternatively called Landmine in localized media, began as an elderly Autobot on Cybertron. He served as a mentor and trainer, shaping younger Autobots like Optimus Prime and Mudflap during their formative years, earning deep respect within Autobot society. Facing a destabilizing black hole threatening Cybertron, he evacuated to Earth via Vector Prime, becoming separated from the main Autobot forces.
On Earth, he encountered and formed a protective bond with three human children—Coby, Bud, and Lori. This connection shifted his perspective, leading him to value human allies despite initial Cybertronian reservations. He adopted a payloader vehicle as his Earth-based alternate mode. His primary combat ability utilized his Cyber Key Power to deploy bladed wheels, generating destructive whirlwinds known as Tornado Cutter (or Cyber Tempest in some regions).
His character centered on reconciling experiences. While initially gruff like a battle-tested veteran, interactions revealed a fundamentally kind-hearted nature. This complexity emerged when confronting Mudflap's betrayal. Mudflap, his former student, disillusioned by the Autobots' focus on humans, joined the Decepticons under Starscream. Landmine confronted him, and Mudflap expressed regret upon realizing the Decepticons' brutal methods conflicted with his intentions. Demonstrating profound compassion, Landmine forgave Mudflap and facilitated his return to the Autobots.
Throughout the conflict for the Cyber Planet Keys and Omega Lock, he operated primarily on Earth and later joined missions to other worlds like Velocitron. He fought alongside united Autobot forces and planetary leaders in the final confrontation against Galvatron within the black hole. Following the universe's stabilization and Galvatron's defeat, he continued serving within the Autobot ranks as they pursued new endeavors, including Optimus Prime's space bridge initiative.
