Guardshell, known alternatively as Landmine, functioned as an experienced Autobot elder amidst Cybertron's black hole crisis. He held a significant mentorship role, having trained numerous young Autobots, including his former comrade Mudflap and Optimus Prime in their formative years.
When the black hole threatened Cybertron, Vector Prime intervened, transporting Guardshell to Earth for safety. This relocation positioned him near a group of human children who swiftly became vital Autobot allies, establishing him as a grounded presence early in the conflict.
His alternate mode was a payloader, equipped for construction and combat. His Cyber Key Power activated the "Tornado Cutter" (also called "Cyber Tempest" in some dubs), deploying bladed wheels that generated destructive whirlwinds.
A significant conflict arose with his former student, Mudflap. Following Cybertron's evacuation to Earth, Mudflap grew disillusioned with the Autobot mission and human interactions. Persuaded by Starscream, he defected to the Decepticons, seeking galactic salvation without humans. However, Mudflap could not reconcile with the Decepticons' methods. Consumed by guilt after leaving them, he sought redemption. As a forgiving mentor, Guardshell personally offered Mudflap a second chance, facilitating his return to the Autobot ranks.
Throughout the search for the Omega Lock and the Cyber Planet Keys, he operated primarily on Earth, contributing his combat experience and wisdom to Autobot efforts. His actions consistently reflected his foundational role as a teacher and stabilizer within the team, leveraging his long history and connection to key leaders like Optimus Prime.
