Dick Grayson operates as Nightwing in an animated feature set within feudal Japan after a time displacement event. During a confrontation at Arkham Asylum involving Gorilla Grodd's Quake Engine, Nightwing is transported back in time alongside Robin, Red Hood, and Red Robin. This group arrives separately from and earlier than Batman.

Upon arrival, Nightwing and the others receive assistance from the Bat Clan, led by Eian. The Bat Clan aids them in locating Batman during his initial battle with the Joker at sea. An explosion in this encounter temporarily causes the Joker and Harley Quinn to lose their memories, though they later regain them. Nightwing participates in the broader conflict against the assembled villains, who have taken control of various feudal territories and mobilized mechanized castle fortresses.

Two days after Batman recovers from injuries sustained in a river battle, Nightwing assists in a coordinated assault against the villains at the "Field of Hell." He fights alongside Batman, the Bat Clan, Catwoman, and the rest of the Bat-Family. During the climactic battle, Gorilla Grodd attempts to seize control of the other villains' forces. This prompts the Joker to merge all castle robots into a single entity called Lord Joker. In response, Robin utilizes a flute to command an army of monkeys, which merges with a swarm of bats to form the counter entity "Batgod." Nightwing contributes to defeating the combined villain forces, culminating in Batman's victory over the Joker.

With the villains subdued, Nightwing participates in delivering them back to the present timeline. There, he and the other members of the Bat-Family hand over the captured criminals to Commissioner James Gordon.
