Description
Bruce Wayne, operating as Batman, is swept back to feudal Japan alongside allies and adversaries during a confrontation at Arkham Asylum involving Gorilla Grodd's Quake Engine time displacement device. He arrives two years after Gotham's villains, who have entrenched themselves as feudal warlords; the Joker reigns supreme as "Lord Joker."
Stranded, Batman adapts, adopting period weaponry like a Bat-Sword while relying on his core skills: martial arts, acrobatics, stealth, deception, and sword-fighting. His modified Batsuit and Grapple Gun remain essential. He encounters the Bat Clan of Hida, a ninja group that aided his allies upon their arrival. This clan believes he fulfills a prophecy of a foreign "bat ninja" destined to restore order, becoming crucial allies.
Initially forging a temporary alliance with Gorilla Grodd to use the Quake Engine for returning everyone to their own time, Batman faces Grodd's betrayal. Following this, he urges his allies – Nightwing, Red Hood, Red Robin, and Robin (Damian Wayne) – to train in the "ways of the ninja" to combat the transformed threats. Strategic battles against villain-controlled mechanized castles culminate in a confrontation with the Joker's combined super robot, "Lord Joker." Utilizing resources from Grodd and the Bat Clan, including an army of monkeys and a swarm of bats, Batman enables the formation of the colossal "Batgod" entity to defeat Lord Joker. He then defeats the Joker in a decisive sword fight, ensuring the villains' return to the present.
Back in Gotham City, Bruce Wayne briefly resumes civilian life, attending social functions using a horse-drawn Batmobile. A new temporal crisis erupts when the entire island of Japan is displaced above Gotham, overrun by yakuza and ruled by the "Yakuza League," a corrupted Justice League created by Ra's al Ghul using the Quake Engine's Four Dimensional Origami System. Ra's al Ghul, Robin's grandfather, seeks to annihilate Gotham and reshape Earth.
Confronting this, Batman leads the Bat-Family against the Yakuza League. He battles their leader, "Man of Steel" (a corrupted Superman), using a Kryptonite brass knuckle entrusted to him earlier by the heroic Superman. After defeating Man of Steel and witnessing the League's reformation into heroic figures due to temporal paradoxes, Batman confronts Ra's al Ghul directly to retrieve the key needed to shut down the Quake Engine. Succeeding with aid from temporarily aligned allies including the Joker and Harley Quinn, Batman helps restore the timeline, leading to the Justice League's return and communication.
Throughout being stranded or facing alternate realities, Batman remains stern, determined, and strategic. He demonstrates care and leadership towards his allies and biological son, Robin, amidst extreme adversity. His core principles of justice and protecting the innocent drive his actions to restore history and prevent widespread destruction across both incidents.
