Description
Kanou Somuku is a 26-year-old businessman operating a financial firm in Shinjuku, distinguished by his imposing 195 cm height and perpetually stern demeanor. His troubled past includes murdering his father and experiencing a personal crisis that brought him to rock bottom. During this period, he encountered 14-year-old Yukiya Ayase, who offered him kindness and assistance. This encounter left a lasting impact, though Ayase had no memory of it.

Years later, discovering Ayase being auctioned as a sex slave by his cousin to settle gambling debts, Kanou intervened. He purchased Ayase for 120 million yen, ostensibly repaying the earlier act of kindness. When Ayase failed to recognize him and rejected his attempts at connection, Kanou resorted to rape to express his feelings. To ensure Ayase remained, he imposed a debt of 120 million yen with 10% interest accruing every 10 days, stipulating Ayase could work it off through sexual acts at 500,000 yen per encounter.

Kanou struggles profoundly with emotional expression. Despite genuine feelings for Ayase, his communication is abrasive and possessive; he frequently refers to Ayase as his property. This, combined with his initial violent actions, leads Ayase to misinterpret Kanou's intentions. Kanou exhibits extreme jealousy and protectiveness, restricting Ayase's movements, reacting violently to perceived threats, and forbidding others from approaching Ayase without permission. He possesses a "death glare" and experiences outbursts of "tranquil fury," especially concerning Ayase's safety or loyalty.

Beneath his ruthless exterior as a loan shark—willing to employ threats, organ harvesting, or forced prostitution to collect debts—Kanou demonstrates gradual development. Recognizing his initial actions traumatized Ayase, he attempts amends through gestures: settling Ayase’s cousin’s debts, buying him clothes, allowing him to attend university, and permitting part-time work at his friend Someya’s okama bar. These actions reveal a hidden capacity for kindness noted by characters like Someya and Gion.

Kanou grapples with internal conflict regarding his sexuality. Initially resistant to identifying as gay despite exclusive attraction to Ayase, he exhibits "Gayngst," rationalizing his feelings under the "If It's You, It's Okay" trope. He eventually accepts his attraction but maintains it is specific only to Ayase ("Single-Target Sexuality"). Over time, he learns to temper his possessiveness and improve communication, driven by a deep-seated fear of abandonment from his abusive childhood and a desire to build a familial bond with Ayase. His development is evidenced by rare moments of vulnerability and emotional openness as Ayase reciprocates feelings.
