Gawain Nanaumi, raised by his grandfather Taizo Nanaumi in rural Fukushima mountains after his mother Emiko Nanaumi's post-birth death and his father Wouzel Phoenix's disappearance, initially dreamed of professional baseball fame through home runs. His path shifted when witnessing golfer Kiria Nishino's powerful drives during her hometown visit, realizing golf allowed even longer hits. With Taizo's encouragement, he moved to Tokyo for Kiria's training. Gawain has blonde hair, green eyes, and a notably round, soft facial structure, often rendered in a super-deformed style that enhances his youthful, squishy look. His personality blends relentless optimism, energetic determination, and straightforward honesty, sometimes causing socially unexpected conduct from his rural upbringing. Though occasionally naive about sarcasm, he voices strong moral convictions against perceived injustices. His golf prowess emerged instantly, with his first swing surpassing Kiria's drive. He rapidly honed exceptional power, routinely exceeding 300-yard drives and peaking at a 440-yard average. He mastered the "Rising Impact" for 450-yard drives and the "Explosion Spin," making balls violently bounce and dig into greens. His putting averaged 1.9 per hole. After a rival's golf ball head injury, he briefly adopted an intensely aggressive "Gawain Phoenix" persona during competitions. At Camelot Academy, Gawain forged a rivalry-turned-friendship with putting prodigy Lancelot Norman, whose initial superiority pushed Gawain to refine his technique. He befriended Riser Hopkins through a driving contest and connected with faculty member Aria Sayfort. His bond with Kiria evolved from mentorship to romance despite their age gap. Gawain competed in the Camelot Cup, debuting his signature techniques and scoring -20 in a physically taxing match. He rose to become the world's top-ranked golfer, married Kiria Nishino, and fathered a son. Later, he taught his grandnephew Balin the Fukushima dialect. His background in woodcutting for Taizo built the lower-body strength and swing balance foundational to his golf dominance.
