TV-Series
Description
Kazuo Nikoyama is a magic engineer at Magilumiere, developing and maintaining magical technology vital for combating Kaii creatures. His passion for magical girls and their technology ignited during school days. Though he participated in a magical programming contest, disqualification for exceeding page limits led him to initially avoid professional programming, seeking to preserve his pure love for magic.
Physically, Nikoyama is notably short, matching Mei Tsuchiba's height. He has long green hair tied back and black eyebrows, consistently wearing glasses. His typical attire features a green checkered formal shirt, blue pants, and sneakers, with a laptop often carried for emergencies. At formal events like the Kamakura party, he appeared without glasses and with straightened hair, resembling a wealthy youth.
Nikoyama exhibits extreme shyness, particularly around new people, which frequently hinders communication. However, discussing magic-related topics like costumes, broom calibration, spellcasting, or wand designs transforms him into an animated and knowledgeable expert. This expertise establishes him as a skilled programmer and operator, recognized as a genius in his field. His passion sometimes manifests in emotional reactions, such as tears of joy upon witnessing elaborate magical effects he designed.
Founder Kouji Shigemoto and marketer Kaede Midorikawa discovered his contest submission, leading to his recruitment at Magilumiere. Initially reluctant due to past disappointment, Nikoyama joined after being inspired by Shigemoto's vision. There, he designs magical girl outfits, including Kana Sakuragi's initial gear, and develops real-time combat spells. His technical prowess occasionally surpasses industry standards, though he remains in awe of legendary engineers like Shigemoto and Hana Ginji.
Nikoyama's relationships evolve significantly: he shares mutual respect with Shigemoto, often debating magical girl dresses for hours; he maintains a casual friendship with Midorikawa, attending karaoke and events together; he initially clashed with Hitomi Koshigaya due to differing personalities but eventually bonded with her as the only colleague who intuitively understands her spellcasting instructions; and he admires Hibiki Yamimori's engineering talent despite Yamimori's initial arrogance, later forming a collaborative partnership after Yamimori joins Magilumiere.
During Act 2, Nikoyama transitions to Sakuragi Planning and later joins AST alongside other former Magilumiere employees, continuing his engineering work within these new organizational structures.
