Description
Rud's story began in childhood when his parents decided to abandon his sister, Manicia, because of her incurable illness. Refusing to accept this, he cut ties with them and took responsibility for raising her himself. They lived for a time in the slums until a noble-sponsored apprenticeship program enabled them to enter knight school. Rud excelled in his studies and was anticipated to become a knight, but he instead turned to adventuring in pursuit of the "Secret Treasure of the Labyrinth," a fabled artifact rumored to grant any wish—a hope he held for curing Manicia. They later settled in the town of Avancia.
He was invited by Nin to join the Hero’s Party, an offer he accepted. However, undiscovered abilities began to interfere with his role, prompting the hero Kyglas to expel him. Following his removal, Rud returned to Avancia and joined a beginner party on an escort mission. During the journey, he rescued a nameless girl from a monster and, learning she had nowhere to go, invited her to his village. He named her Luna, and her rare [Identify] skill revealed Rud’s two hidden abilities: [Sacrifice Shield] and [Life Conversion]. This discovery explained why his Absorb Shield depleted unusually fast, as [Sacrifice Shield] had been secretly protecting his party members. They arrived in Avancia, where Rud introduced Luna to Manicia and his friends.
After a labyrinth was discovered near Avancia, Rud was asked to lead a clan to maintain order or aid in the dungeon’s destruction. He initially preferred the latter to continue his search for a cure, but Luna and Nin proposed managing the clan in his stead. When Manicia urged him to protect Avancia, he agreed to form the clan, with both Luna and Nin joining to support him.
In appearance, Rud is an adult male with black, spiky hair that reaches his ears and black eyes. He is typically armored and wears gloves.
He is characterized by his kindness and readiness to risk himself for others, evidenced by his choice to leave his parents and care for Manicia. He is aware of Nin’s romantic feelings but avoids addressing them, fearing a relationship might weaken his resolve to find a cure for his sister.
Rud possesses multiple unique skills. His [Absorb Shield] has a value of 9,999, the highest recorded, and absorbs damage. [Provoke] forces enemies to focus on him, even multiple targets. [Healthy Body] improves natural healing, grants immunity to status effects, and increases physical toughness. [Life Conversion] transforms all damage taken or Absorb Shield depletion into strength, enabling powerful attacks. When combined with [Sacrifice Shield], which absorbs damage dealt to teammates and can protect multiple people at once, this power is magnified. In a battle against the demon king Greed, the combination temporarily raised his power to 1,000,000 while protecting dozens of adventurers. He later learned to use his mana as a substitute when his Absorb Shield shattered.
A strategic aspect of his status is his deliberate choice to remain an F-Rank adventurer. This prevents the guild from summoning him for quests that would interfere with his labyrinth explorations for the Secret Treasure.
His relationship with Manicia is his central motivation. Her illness directs all his actions, and he is profoundly committed to her well-being. His connections with other characters, including Luna, Nin, and former labyrinth bosses such as Marius and Amon who became his allies, also play important roles.
