Description
Jinka entered the world as a Yamato twin alongside his brother Takeru, both bearing the perilous "Fairy Eyes" that drew dangerous spirits and led to Jinka's abandonment in the wilderness. Adopted and rigorously trained by the warrior monk Kokugetsu Sai in spiritual arts and martial combat, Jinka faced solitude in the mountains after his master's death. Witnessing a close friend die in war cemented his deep-seated hatred for humans. His isolation shattered upon encountering the fox spirit Tama, whom he instinctively recognized as a sworn elder sister despite no blood relation. He pledged to accompany her on journeys confronting human evildoers.
Initially misanthropic and cynical, Jinka's worldview slowly transformed through bonds forged with traveling companions. Human swordsman Hyoudou Shinsuke and the katawara Shakugan became trusted friends, aiding him in overcoming his prejudice. His protective loyalty to Tama evolved into romantic love, fueling his frequent declarations of a desire to transcend humanity and become a demon to permanently join her supernatural existence. This ambition became a driving force throughout his journey.
Jinka's combat prowess centered on "Spirit Transformation," triggered by ingesting Tama's blood. This state granted him fox-like traits, including ears and multiple tails composed of elemental energy. Beginning with four tails, he progressively unlocked up to nine, each granting control over a specific element: earth (manifesting giant fists), fire (Inferno Princess), water (defensive dragon), wood (constricting trees), metal (giant blade), lightning, wind (speed enhancement), light, and darkness (void manipulation). His signature technique, "Souls of Five Elements," fused primary elements into devastating energy blasts. The Fairy Eyes provided enhanced perception, revealing auras, predicting movements, and detecting invisible beings. After losing his left arm battling the monk Jinun, he regenerated it using spiritual energy, crafting a versatile "Soul Arm" capable of intangibility and elongation.
A pivotal turning point occurred when Jinka consumed the flesh of the mountain god Taizan, achieving a nine-tailed form. This act unleashed severe mental instability from uncontrollable spiritual energy. Manipulated into believing he killed Tama, he underwent a catastrophic transformation into the Thousand-Tailed Spirit Fox – a near-mindless divine beast of immense destructive power. This state wrought widespread devastation until allies intervened years later. Regaining sanity through external aid, he stabilized as a full katawara with permanent fox ears and tail-manipulation abilities. His elemental powers amplified significantly, now deployable as "Hundred Fold" versions via subsets of his thousand tails.
In the aftermath, Jinka married Tama and returned to mountain life. Centuries later, he remained active as a benevolent force alongside companions Senya and Mudou, resolving supernatural threats across Japan. His extended divine lifespan contrasted sharply with the mortality of human allies like Shinsuke and Tsukiko, whom he outlived. Despite initial struggles with isolation and purpose, he ultimately forged enduring connections through Tama and his role protecting both humans and spirits.
