Description
Kei Kaname is a first-year high school student and a main character who forms a battery with Haruka Kiyomine. He has short light brown or blond hair and a distinct mole under his left eye.

In middle school, he was a genius catcher known as the "Skilled General" for his exceptional ability to lead pitchers with precise game-calling and technique. Together with Haruka Kiyomine, they formed a feared battery duo that dominated opponents so thoroughly it caused several players they defeated to quit baseball.

Prior to high school, Kei lost all memories related to baseball due to an off-camera amnesia incident. This memory loss reverted his personality to its natural, good-natured state, transforming him into a goofy, lazy, and sometimes whiny individual. He shows little interest in baseball, preferring video games and snacks, and often makes lewd jokes or non-sequiturs like shouting "Nipple hair!" This change earned him the new nickname "Hajishou," or "Shame General," from his teammates as a contrast to his former title.

Despite his initial rejection of baseball, he joins the newly established baseball team at Kotesashi High School. Throughout the story, he occasionally displays flashes of his former skills, instinctively assuming catching stances or making skilled plays before returning to his post-amnesia behavior. His interactions with teammates during practice and games slowly reignite his interest in the sport.

His backstory reveals that his pre-amnesia self was under significant pressure and had lost the joy of playing baseball, treating it more as a duty. The amnesia erased his memories and skills but allowed him to develop a more carefree approach to life and eventually find fun in baseball again. His mother is lively and openly teases him and his friends about their lack of romantic experience.

He is the most popular character in the series, winning character popularity polls with all versions of him combined receiving over 29% of the votes in the first poll and over 27% in the second.

As the story progresses, he begins to regain his memories and former skills, leading to a fusion of his past disciplined self and his current good-natured personality. This allows him to become a skilled catcher again while maintaining his rediscovered joy for the game.
