Description
Alice Swayne, a sorcerer and apprentice to Mikhail Renfred, endured a traumatic upbringing shaped by parental substance abuse and exploitation. Her drug-addicted father coerced her into addiction and criminal acts before his death left her fending for herself on the streets. Renfred rescued her, identifying her dormant magical talent, and guided her through a grueling detoxification aided by an elixir that eased chronic withdrawal. Her loyalty solidified when he sustained injuries shielding her from a cursed book, prompting her oath to protect him in return.

Her wavy blonde hair, once styled with left-swept bangs, was later cropped to chin-length to forge a pact with a Will o’ the Wisp, strands woven into a coal-infused pouch. She favors practical, masculine attire mirroring her brash demeanor, though her wardrobe transitions to tailored suits during missions like the Dragon in London arc.

Initially an antagonist in the Ulthar Arc, she confronted Chise Hatori, submerging her in water and taking her hostage to advance Renfred’s goals. Coerced into villainy by Joseph’s threats against Renfred, she eventually allied with Chise, bonding over their traumatic pasts and rescue by mentors. This friendship spurred her to aid Chise against Cartaphilus’s assaults and join critical rescue efforts.

Skilled in firearms, blades, and teleportation via Renfred’s artifacts, she wields a fire-aligned Will o’ the Wisp named Blue Flame, amplifying her magic to combat chimeras and wraiths. Haunted by self-doubt after Renfred lost an arm defending her and Joseph’s manipulation of him, she pursued rigorous training at the College despite warnings against pushing her limits.

Emotionally conflicted, she rejects Renfred’s fatherly care, fearing it echoes her abusive past, yet yearns to remain his protector. A candid talk with Chise exposed her frustrations over past helplessness, while Renfred’s reassurance—vowing to safeguard her until she gains independence—eased her fears. Her journey reflects a shift from survivalist instincts to purposeful growth, balancing loyalty, resilience, and forging bonds that anchor her present.
