Description
Iroha Inukai is a fourteen-year-old second-year student at Private Wangan Second Junior High School and the owner of a small, energetic dog named Komugi. Her life revolves around her love for animals, a passion that defines her daily routine, which always begins with a morning walk with Komugi. She comes from a family that shares her devotion to animal welfare, as her parents run a combined animal hospital and pet salon called "Friendly." Iroha's deep-seated desire to befriend every animal in the world is the core of her personality and the driving force behind her actions.

Iroha is characterized by an effervescent, honest, and remarkably caring nature. She is described as being a natural caretaker who is always ready to help others, which has earned her many friends and the trust of animals, who seem instinctively drawn to her gentle demeanor. Her sincerity is a defining trait, making her completely incapable of telling lies or keeping secrets; doing so causes her significant emotional distress. This honesty is matched by a brave and proactive spirit. From a young age, she has shown a willingness to put herself in harm's way to protect both people and animals, a trait that only grows stronger as the story progresses. Despite her emotional maturity and level-headedness in many situations, she can be somewhat oblivious when it comes to matters of the heart and is known for her terrible cooking skills, a fact of which she remains unaware.

Iroha's primary motivation is to protect animals from harm and to bridge the gap between humans and the animal kingdom. This wish becomes a concrete goal when a mysterious power begins transforming distressed animals into rampaging monsters known as Garugaru. Her resolve to become a warrior, Cure Friendy, was not born from a grand destiny but from a simple, powerful wish: to stand by Komugi's side in battle and to help the suffering animals, believing that talking and empathizing with them is the path to purification rather than outright fighting.

In the narrative, Iroha serves as the steadfast emotional anchor and the practical leader of the group. Her role is uniquely central because the initial main Cure, Cure Wonderful, is actually her dog, Komugi, in human form. While Komugi provides fierce enthusiasm and instinct, Iroha supplies the human perspective, compassion, and strategic thinking. Their partnership is built on a profound mutual trust formed years prior when a young Iroha found an injured, stray puppy in the rain and nursed it back to health—that puppy was Komugi. Their bond is so strong that Iroha can identify Komugi even in her human form through a secret handshake they share.

Her most significant relationship is, without question, with Komugi. They are inseparable partners, and their mutual desire to protect each other is the catalyst for Iroha becoming Cure Friendy. Her other crucial relationship is with her classmate, Satoru Toyama. Satoru is a calm, knowledgeable friend who shares her love for animals, and he is the first person to whom Iroha reveals her secret identity. While Iroha is initially oblivious to his romantic feelings for her, their relationship deepens throughout the story, eventually becoming a confirmed, mutually acknowledged romantic partnership. Iroha also plays a key role in befriending the more reserved Mayu Nekoyashiki, helping her come out of her shell.

Iroha’s development is marked by her growing acceptance of the complexities of the world and her own responsibilities. Initially struggling with the burden of keeping her identity as a Precure a secret, she learns that trusting her close friends and family is a strength, not a weakness. She faces the harsh reality that some animals, like the wolves from the past, have been harmed by humans, leading to grief and guilt. She learns to overcome this despair and continues to pursue her idealistic goal of universal friendship, even when faced with those who believe it is impossible. While she is a central and stabilizing figure, the story also shows her vulnerabilities, such as a moment of childish denial when faced with the natural death of a pet, highlighting her compassionate heart is sometimes at odds with reality.

As Cure Friendy, Iroha embodies her theme of "friendship." Her attack and defense methods reflect her non-violent nature, focusing on restraint and purification rather than direct offense. Her primary abilities include the Ribbon Barrier, which creates large, ribbon-like shields for protection, and the Friendly Ribbon, which generates a long, single ribbon used to wrap up and restrain enemies. After receiving a power-up from the Diamond Ribbon Castle, she accesses a stronger form called Diamond Ribbon Style. As an ordinary human, Iroha possesses exceptional athleticism, excelling in sports and demonstrating agility and stamina far above average. Her unique approach to combat involves trying to speak to the rampaging Garugaru, asking them to become her friends and to tell her what is wrong, which is the method through which she ultimately purifies them.
