Description
Elfaria Alvis Serfort is a central figure in her story, known as one of the five most powerful mages in the world, a rank called the Magia Vander. At only fifteen years old, she achieved the unprecedented feat of becoming the youngest person ever to attain this title. For her mastery over ice magic, she is granted the middle name Albis and leads the Ice Faction from the top of the great tower. She is also the childhood friend and primary love interest of Will Serfort, the protagonist.
Elfaria and Will were both abandoned as infants and raised together in the same orphanage. From a very young age, Elfaria displayed extraordinary magical talent, creating her first original spell at just two years old. She and Will shared a childhood promise to one day stand together at the top of the tower and watch the sunset. Her rapid ascent through the magical academy and into the ranks of the Magia Vander was a direct result of her immense genius, having created twelve original spells by the time she took her place among the five.
To the public and the students of the magical academy, Elfaria is revered as a saint, a figure of perfect grace, beauty, and power, often called the Secluded Ice Princess. However, this image is a carefully maintained facade. Her true personality is the complete opposite: she is deeply lazy, childish, and obsessively focused on Will Serfort. She spends almost all her time in her personal chambers at the top of the tower, neglecting her duties as a leader to sleep or to secretly watch over Will as he struggles through the academy. Her second-in-command, Sarissa Alfeld, is often exasperated as she is forced to manage both the Ice Faction and Elfaria's capricious, slovenly habits, which include a dislike for dressing up and a tendency to laze about. These traits have earned her nicknames such as the Embodiment of Laziness from her peers within the tower.
Elfaria’s primary motivation is her love for Will, whom she considers her other half. Everything she does is ultimately for him. She created many of her signature spells as a child to monopolize his attention, and as a Magia Vander, she constantly uses her power to watch over him, to the point of interfering in events at the academy from afar. She is intensely jealous of anyone who gets close to him, lashing out at rivals who express interest in him. While her feelings are all-consuming, she once offered to release Will from their childhood promise, believing his inability to use magic would make it impossible for him to reach the tower, and she wished to spare him further suffering. Will's determination to fulfill the promise regardless only deepened her devotion, solidifying her vow to wait for him for as long as it takes.
In the story, Elfaria serves as the unreachable goal and the emotional anchor for Will. Although she is physically separated from him for most of the narrative, living at the tower's apex, her presence is a constant driving force for his actions. Her role is that of a distant yet powerful guardian, using magic to aid him in subtle ways. While she rarely appears directly in the main events at the academy, her power and influence are felt throughout, as many characters are aware of her legendary status and her connection to Will.
As a Magia Vander, Elfaria's abilities are nearly unmatched. She is a peerless master of water and ice magic, capable of using virtually every spell of those elements. Her true power lies in her original magical system, the Twelve Secret Arts of Ice. The most fundamental of these is the First Art, Ars Weiss the Art of White, which she created at age two. This spell allows her to generate multiple ice clones of herself that are indistinguishable from the original. In combat, these clones can perform devastating coordinated attacks, and more importantly, they can utilize a technique called Inherited Chant. With this, if one Elfaria is interrupted while casting a long spell, another clone can seamlessly continue the incantation, making it nearly impossible for enemies to disrupt her magic. Other secret arts include the Seventh Art, Fruzel Cardeneia, which summons a massive ice cathedral for a concentrated bombardment, and the Tenth Art, Mildas Froiderite, a powerful freezing technique originally designed to hold onto Will that becomes stronger the closer an opponent gets. She wears a special battle dress known as the Holy Shroud of Diamond Dust and wields a powerful staff called Albis Vina, the Ice Princess Wand. Her power is so great that she has fought other members of the Magia Vander to a standstill, proving that her title is well-earned.
