Description
Kanako Sanjō, a Japanese Annex I mission member under Squad 1 leader Shokichi Komachi, possesses a name meaning "add/increase, apple tree, child" with the surname "three article". Born February 9 (Aquarius), she stands 160 cm tall, weighs 42 kg, and has blood type A. Her parents were a television personality and a famous soccer player. Following their path, she pursued track-and-field until her father's exposure for performance-enhancing drugs and her mother's involvement in shady dealings fractured the family. Facing debt and authorities, Kanako sought funds to sever ties, joining the Annex Project for financial reasons.

After returning to Earth with other Annex I survivors, she was assigned to Escort 1. Partnering with Keiji Onizuka to investigate Japanese kidnappings, she detected Kyoko Kamifukuoka's scream during a Terraformar attack. Kanako flew Keiji to the apartment, enabling his intervention. She stayed to manage witnesses—Kyoko, her stepson Ryouta Kamifukuoka, and his girlfriend Misaki Fujimino—but hastily excused herself upon encountering two naked women, claiming she was on the wrong floor.

Her primary ability comes from the M.O. Operation using the white-throated needletail, granting lightweight amylose skin and powerful chest muscles for sustained flight at 350 km/h horizontally, making her exceptionally fast against Terraformars. She uses specialized body kit blades on her arms to swiftly kill Terraformars by flying through them. Her equipment was upgraded post-Earth return to a more advanced body kit that converts into a pocket-sized bag.

Personality-wise, Kanako exhibits sensitivity about her physical appearance, particularly her bust size. This is depicted in the spin-off "Today's terraformars is on break!", where she reacts strongly to physique comments, confronting Eva Frost over stolen undergarments and intimidating Adolf Reinhard and Sylvester Asimov over their bust preferences. She harbors unrequited romantic feelings for fellow Annex I member Marcos E. Garcia, experiencing rejection as documented in chapter 173.5.

Her favorite foods are tofu and yogurt; she dislikes family restaurants owned by men displaying obvious interest in their waitresses.
