Description
Kasumi Saegusa serves as the second daughter of the Saegusa family, one of Japan's ruling Ten Master Clans. She is the older identical twin of Izumi Saegusa and three years younger than her eldest sister, Mayumi Saegusa. Kasumi enrolled at First High School in April 2096, placing third in the entrance exams and initially assigned to Class 1-C. Her appearance features short brown hair, green eyes, and a small ribbon near her left eyebrow, differentiating her from Izumi's distinct ribbon. Kasumi presents as a tomboy, referring to herself with the masculine pronoun "boku."

She shares an exceptionally close bond with her twin Izumi, often relying on her to manage the fallout of her short temper. Kasumi deeply admires Mayumi but harbors slight fear of her reactions when significantly angered. She expresses concern over Mayumi's lack of romantic relationships, displaying strong protectiveness by interfering with and sometimes frightening away potential suitors, even threatening individuals like Hattori Hanzou. Kasumi maintains a positive relationship with her father, Kouichi Saegusa.

Her first encounter with Tatsuya Shiba sparked immediate hostility under the mistaken belief he was flirting with Mayumi. Kasumi lunged at him with a flying knee kick enhanced by acceleration magic. Tatsuya intercepted the attack, and Izumi prevented Kasumi's fall. After Mayumi intervened and prohibited unauthorized magic, Kasumi offered a reluctant apology. She remained unfriendly towards Tatsuya, becoming angered by his proximity to Mayumi. Kasumi joined the Public Morals Committee partly to compete with or undermine Tatsuya's reputation. Learning of his accomplishments as a Magic Engineer during the Nine Schools Competition, where teams under his guidance remained undefeated until internal matches, began shifting her perception. Kasumi maintained caution but gradually developed respect for him as a senior.

During club recruitment week, Kasumi argued with Shippou Takuma, who held strong hostility toward the Saegusa family. Their antagonism included a prior magical confrontation where both twins lost to Takuma. In a later encounter, Kasumi used her handkerchief to stop Takuma's bleeding after he injured his hand, advising him while declining its return.

Kasumi and Izumi possess identical genetics and magical capabilities, enabling unique synchronization. Their Magic Calculation Areas resonate, stimulating each other during casting and allowing activation of sequences on each other's bodies without degradation. This resonance creates multiplicative magical effects, forming a single amplified power known as Multiplicative Cast. Their combined spells demonstrate greater strength than individual efforts, earning recognition that the Saegusa twins reveal their true capability only when together. They specialize in advanced atmospheric manipulation magic, including:
- Suffocating Turbulence: A complex convergence and movement-type magic raising nitrogen levels while controlling air currents to induce oxygen deficiency and unconsciousness, though their control remains coarse.
- Heated Turbulence: Igniting targets through adiabatic compression of oxygen-rich air blocks, usable simultaneously with Suffocating Turbulence.
- Freeze Air Bullet: Compressing and cooling air into projectiles.
- Nitrogen Storm: Directing nitrogen-concentrated air to drastically reduce oxygen around targets.

In Volume 17, Kouichi Saegusa revealed Tatsuya and Miyuki's engagement and Yotsuba heritage to Kasumi, causing shock. When asked her opinion of Tatsuya, Kasumi stated insufficient personal knowledge but acknowledged his formidable power and talent in magic engineering. She protested Kouichi's suggestion of Mayumi pursuing Tatsuya romantically, concerned it would damage Mayumi's reputation and portray her negatively. Kasumi later moved to Class 2-C for her sophomore year, continuing Public Morals Committee activities. Her protectiveness of Mayumi persists, but her approach toward Tatsuya evolved from outright hostility to wary recognition of his capabilities.
